Here's how the Phillies' minor league teams fared on Wednesday, August 27:

Lehigh Valley IronPigs – Triple A

The IronPigs used 12 hits to beat the Pawtucket Red Sox, 5-1, at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, Pa.

Left-handed starter Greg Smith (9-10, 4.29 ERA) was stellar, tossing seven scoreless innings to pick up the win. Smith allowed three hits, walked three and struck out two.

Center fielder Tony Gwynn Jr. hit a leadoff home run in the first to start things off right for the IronPigs. Gwynn finished the game 3-for-4 with two run scored and two RBI.

Third baseman Maikel Franco continued his recent surge with a 2-for-3 game. Franco doubled, drew a walk, knocked in two runs and was caught stealing.

The IronPigs (64-75) will wrap up the two-game series with righty Jeff Manship (0-1, 4.09 ERA) making the start.

Reading Fightin Phils – Double A

The Fightin Phils enjoyed a four-run second inning and cruised to a 5-2 win over the Portland Sea Dogs at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine.

Two home runs in the second fueled the offense for Reading. Designated hitter Jake Fox hit a solo shot and catcher Logan Moore (2-for-4) hit a two-run homer.

It was 22nd home run for Fox in his 73rd game with the Fightin Phils.

Left-handed starter Adam Loewen (3-5, 3.20 ERA) did enough to earn the victory. Loewen allowed two runs on five hits and six walks in five-plus innings. He also uncorked two wild pitches.

Third baseman Carlos Alonso (2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a caught stealing) and center fielder Aaron Altherr (2-for-4 with a stolen base, a run scored and a strikeout) notched multi-hit games.

The Fightin Phils (61-76) will try for a series sweep on Thursday. Southpaw Hoby Milner (9-6, 4.33 ERA) takes the bump in the finale.

Clearwater Threshers – Class A-Advanced

The Threshers rallied to beat the Tampa Yankees, 9-7, in 11 innings at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Fla.

Right-handed starter Jordan Guth struggled and put his team in a hole. Guth was charged with five runs on five hits and three walks in 4 1/3 innings.

The Threshers' 4-5-6 hitters not only rallied the team with a three-run ninth to even the score, but also pushed two runs across in the 11th to win the game.

Designated hitter Art Charles (2-for-4 with a double, two RBI, a hit by pitch and a strikeout), first baseman Chris Serritella (1-for-5 with two RBI and two strikeouts) and right fielder Brandon Short (2-for-6 with a stolen base, a run scored, three RBI and a strikeout) did the damage.

The Threshers (29-37 in second half, 46-88 overall) will turn to righty Colin Kleven (6-9, 4.55 ERA) in the rubber match on Thursday.

Lakewood BlueClaws – Class A

The BlueClaws blew a late lead and fell to the Hickory Crawdads, 3-2, at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood Township, N.J.

Despite allowing a first-inning run, right-handed starter Jon Prosinski settled in nicely and had a strong outing. Prosinski gave up one run on four hits and three walks while striking out seven over seven innings.

Third baseman Mitch Walding blasted his seventh home run, a solo shot, to tie the game in the third.

In the sixth, shortstop Malquin Canelo reached on a one-out single and scored on catcher Andrew Knapp's RBI double to take the lead.

Unfortunately, righty Nick Rodesky surrendered two runs in the eighth to doom Lakewood.

Southpaw Yoel Mecias (2-3, 3.90 ERA) takes the ball in the finale on Thursday as the BlueClaws (23-40 in second half, 50-82 overall) look to avoid a sweep.

Williamsport Crosscutters – Class A-Short Season

The Crosscutters were shut out by the State College Spikes, 6-0, at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park in State College, Pa.

Left fielder Cord Sandberg (2-for-4) and right fielder Jose Pujols (2-for-4 with a double and two strikeouts) combined for four of the offense's seven hits.

Right-handed starter Alejandro Arteaga (1-8, 4.46 ERA) was stuck with the loss for surrendered four runs (two earned) on five hits over six innings.

The Crosscutters (32-39) will trot out righty Ricardo Pinto (1-4, 2.25 ERA) to the mound as the two-game series concludes on Thursday.
