Here's how the Phillies' minor league teams fared on Monday, August 11:
Lehigh Valley IronPigs – Triple A
Three pitchers combined for the IronPigs on a 4-0 shutout win over the Columbus Clippers at Huntington Park in Columbus, Ohio.
Righties Jeff Manship (3 2/3 innings), Ethan Martin (3 1/3) and Luis Garcia (two) delivered a seven-hitter for the victory.
Shortstop Freddy Galvis (2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI) and designated hitter Russ Canzler (2-for-4 with a two-run home run, and two runs scored) combined for four of the IronPigs' seven hits to power the offense.
The homer was Canzler's 11th of the season.
The IronPigs (58-65) will hand the ball to lefty Jo-Jo Reyes (1-2, 9.72 ERA) as the series continues Tuesday.
Reading Fightin Phils – Double A
The Fightin Phils (53-68) were idle on Monday.
Reading is in last place in the Eastern League Eastern Division, 21 1/2 games back of the first-place Portland Sea Dogs.
Righty Aaron Nola (1-0, 1.80 ERA) will make his second start with the Fightin Phils in the opener of a three-game set with the Harrisburg Senators on Tuesday.
Clearwater Threshers – Class A-Advanced
The Threshers edged the Brevard County Manatees, 2-1, at Space Coast Stadium in Melbourne, Fla.
Left-handed starter Jesse Biddle (2-0, 0.90 ERA) enjoyed his second successful outing and earned the win. Biddle held the Manatees to a run on three hits while striking out four over five innings. However, he walked five and uncorked a wild pitch.
The offense provided a run in each of the first two innings to aid Biddle.
Second baseman Anthony Phillips connected on a solo home run, his second of the season, in the first.
An inning later, third baseman Harold Martinez singled and scored on left fielder Brandon Short's RBI double for a 2-0 lead.
Short added two singles to finish the game 3-for-4.
Relievers Cody Forsythe (2 2/3 innings) and Ulises Joaquin (1 1/3) combined for four scoreless innings to secure the win.
The Threshers (22-29 in second half, 39-80 overall) have an off day scheduled for Tuesday.
Lakewood BlueClaws – Class A
The BlueClaws (19-31 in second half, 46-73 overall) and the Greensboro Grasshoppers had the opening game of a three-game set postponed due to rain.
The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Tuesday.
Southpaw Yoel Mecias (2-1, 1.80 ERA) and righty Jon Prosinski (4-4, 4.33 ERA) are slated to make the starts for the BlueClaws.
Williamsport Crosscutters – Class A-Short Season
The Crosscutters were held to three hits and were shut out by the Lowell Spinners, 2-0, at Edward A. LeLacheur Park in Lowell, Mass.
Left-handed starter Brandon Leibrandt (1-2, 1.74 ERA) was the tough-luck loser for the Crosscutters. He gave up only two hits, but one was a solo home run in the second inning. Leibrandt struck out 10 batters in seven innings.
Right fielder Cord Sandberg, catcher Deivi Grullon and left fielder Chase Harris (double) managed base hits for Williamsport.
The Crosscutters (26-31) return home for a three-game series with the Batavia Muckdogs. Righty Feliberto Sanchez (2-6, 6.00 ERA) will toe the rubber in the opener on Tuesday.
