Here's how the Phillies' minor league teams fared on Monday, July 28:
Lehigh Valley IronPigs – Triple A
The IronPigs fell to the Buffalo Bisons, 4-2, at Coca-Cola Field in Buffalo, N.Y.
The loss was Lehigh Valley's ninth in a row.
Designated hitter Maikel Franco drove in both runs for the IronPigs. Franco went 4-for-4 with a solo home run and a stolen base to raise his average to .241 on the season. The home run was Franco's eighth of the season.
Right-handed starter Sean O'Sullivan pitched a complete game, but suffered the loss. He allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks over eight innings.
The IronPigs (49-61) will wrap up a road trip with a two-game series with the Rochester Red Wings. Righty Brad Lincoln (5-6, 4.34 ERA) is slated to start the opener on Tuesday.
Reading Fightin Phils – Double A
The FIghtin Phils were blanked by the Portland Sea Dogs, 2-0, at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine.
The offense couldn't get anything going and was held to two hits. Third baseman Carlos Alonso and designated hitter Jake Fox both singled.
Right-handed starter Severino Gonzalez (6-12, 5.12 ERA) was stuck with the loss as he gave up two runs on five hits in three innings. Both runs came via the long ball. A rain delay forced Gonzalez out of the game early.
The Fightin Phils (44-62) are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Tuesday.
Clearwater Threshers – Class A-Advanced
The Threshers were routed by the Fort Myers Miracle, 14-0, at Hammond Stadium in Fort Myers, Fla.
Clearwater only had four baserunners in the loss on three singles and a walk.
Right-handed starter Jeb Stefan (6-10, 6.51 ERA) opened the flood gates and took the loss. Stefan was rocked for six runs on six hits and two walks in 3 1/3 innings.
Southpaw Lino Martinez was charged with most of the damage as he gave up seven runs on six hits in two innings.
The Threshers (15-22 in second half, 32-73 overall) will hand the ball to righty Colin Kleven (3-8, 5.05 ERA) as the series continues on Tuesday.
Lakewood BlueClaws – Class A
The BlueClaws let a three-run lead slip away in a 5-3 loss to the Kannapolis Intimidators at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood Township, N.J.
A three-run first inning was capped off by third baseman Mitch Walding's two-RBI triple, but the offense couldn't score again.
Right-handed starter Tyler Viza (3-14, 5.15 ERA) tied a franchise record for losses in a season. Viza surrendered five runs on 10 hits and a hit batsman over six innings.
Catcher Andrew Knapp (3-for-4 with a run scored) and right fielder Dylan Cozens (2-for-4 with a run scored) had strong days in the heart of the BlueClaws' lineup.
The BlueClaws (14-24 in second half, 41-66 overall) send lefty Yoel Mecias (1-0, 0.90 ERA) to the bump in the series finale on Tuesday.
Williamsport Crosscutters – Class A-Short Season
The Crosscutters' game against the Batavia Muckdogs was postponed due to rain.
The teams will play a doubleheader on Tuesday.
Righty Mitch Gueller (3-2, 3.25 ERA) will start the first game and righty Brandon Leibrandt (1-0, 0.75 ERA) handles the second for the Crosscutters (21-22).
