  • The offense could only manage one run, despite nine hits in the game. First baseman Jim Murphy hit a solo home run, his fourth of the year, in the eighth.

Left fielder Matt Tolbert (3-for-4) and Murphy (3-for-4 with a strikeout) combined for six hits.

The IronPigs fell a game under .500 on the season at 15-16. The series will continue Wednesday as righty Jonathan Pettibone (2-0, 3.38 ERA) takes the mound for Lehigh Valley.

Reading Fightin Phils – Double A

The Fightin Phils were shut out by the Portland Sea Dogs, 4-0, at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading, Pa.

Right-handed starter Severino Gonzalez (3-2, 4.02 ERA) was stuck with the loss as he was charged with four runs on six hits, two walks and a hit batsman in six innings. Gonzalez struck out two.

The Fightin Phils were held to six hits and three walks in the game.

Only two Reading hitters reached base multiple times: shortstop Cesar Hernandez (1-for-2 with two walks) and center fielder Aaron Altherr (2-for-4 with a strikeout).

The loss dropped the Fightin Phils to .500 at 14-14. Reading will look to avoid a sweep as southpaw Hoby Milner (0-2, 6.16 ERA) takes his turn in the rotation Wednesday.

    Clearwater Threshers – Class A-Advanced

The Threshers beat the Brevard County Manatees, 4-2, to win a three-game series at Space Coast in Viera, Fla.

Right-handed starter Colin Kleven (1-3, 6.12 ERA) gave his team six strong innings for the win. He allowed one run on six hits and struck out two.

Clearwater's 8-9 hitters knocked in all the runs for the team: right fielder Brian Pointer (2-for-3 with a home run, a run scored and three RBI) and left fielder Anthony Phillips (1-for-4 with an RBI).

Shortstop Angelo Mora (2-for-5) and center fielder Peter Lavin (2-for-4) also had multi-hit games.

The Threshers improved to 7-22, but still have the Florida State League's worst record. Clearwater begins a four-game series on Wednesday with the Dunedin Blue Jays. The teams will alternate home games. Righty Brody Colvin (0-1, 6.00 ERA) is slated to start the opener.

    Lakewood BlueClaws – Class A

The BlueClaws (12-18) were idle on Tuesday. Lakewood will host the Kannapolis Intimidators for a three-game set, beginning Wednesday. Righty Drew Anderson (1-1, 4.22 ERA) will take the ball for the opener.
