Phillies Minor League Report: Aaron Altherr helps Threshers end nine-game skid

Here’s a rundown on how the Phillies’ minor league teams fared on Tuesday, April 15:

Lehigh Valley IronPigs – Triple A

The IronPigs (4-7) and the Syracuse Chiefs were slated to play a doubleheader on Tuesday because rain washed away the opening game of their series Monday. However, rain postponed both ends of the doubleheader.

The teams will now play a doubleheader on Thurssday.

  • On Wednesday, one game is scheduled in another attempt to begin the series. Weather permitting, righty David Buchanan (1-0, 1.50 ERA) will take the ball for the IronPigs.

    Reading Fightin Phils – Double A

    The Fightin Phils' game against the Richmond Flying Squirrels was also postponed due to rain.

    The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on July 4th.

    Righty Brody Colvin (0-0, 0.00 ERA) slated to make the start for the Fightin Phils (8-3) in the series finale Wednesday.

    Clearwater Threshers – Class A-Advanced

    The Threshers snapped a nine-game losing streak by edging the Tampa Yankees, 8-7, at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Fla.

    Trailing 1-0 in the third, Clearwater pushed six runs across the plate on six hits for a commanding lead.

    Unfortunately, right-handed starter Jon Prosinski struggled and let the Yankees back in the game. He allowed five runs on eight hits, including a home run, and a walk over six-plus innings. Prosinski struck out six as he settled for a no-decision.

    The teams were tied heading into the ninth, when the Threshers were able to score the winning run. Right fielder Justin Parr reached on an infield single to lead off the frame, moved to second on left fielder Peter Lavin's single and third on a groundout. Parr would score when second baseman KC Serna put a ball in play that was misplayed by Tampa.

    Righty Colton Murray pitched a perfect ninth and earned the win.

    Clearwater managed 11 hits in the win, highlighted by center fielder Aaron Altherr, who went 3-for-5 with a triple, a double, two runs scored and a strikeout.

    The Threshers are now 2-10 on the season. Clearwater for a series win, which would be a season first, on Wednesday as righty Miguel Nunez (0-1, 4.09 ERA) makes the start.

    Lakewood BlueClaws – Class A

    A game between the BlueClaws (3-8) and the Greensboro Grasshoppers was postponed due to rain.

    The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Tuesday, June 3rd.

    The teams will try to conclude the series Wednesday. The pitching matchup has not been announced.
