Flyers trim four from roster, including Morgan Frost

No shocker: The Flyers sent four of their June draft picks to their junior teams. Nolan Patrick was not one of them.

The Flyers trimmed four players from their roster Thursday, including speedy center Morgan Frost, who was a first-round selection (27th overall) in the June draft.

All four players will report to their respective junior teams in the Ontario Hockey League, where they will face one another.

The Flyers have 57 players heading into their veteran training camp, which opens Friday in Voorhees at 9:45 a.m. They will probably carry 23 players this season. The camp is free and open to the public.

Frost, acquired with a draft pick that was part of the deal that sent Brayden Schenn to St. Louis in June, will report to Sault Ste. Marie.

Wingers Isaac Ratcliffe (Guelph), Matt Strome (Hamilton), and Maksim Sushko (Owen Sound) were also returned to their junior teams. Like Frost, they were selected in the June draft.

Ratcliffe, a 6-foot-5, 205-pound left winger who surprisingly lasted until the second round (35th overall), is coming off a 28-goal season.

The 5-11, 172-pound Frost said his stint with the Flyers at rookie camp "will give me more confidence after playing with this caliber of players for a while. I think it'll help me be more of a leader in junior."

In 67 games with Sault Ste. Marie last season, Frost had 62 points, including 20 goals.

"We like Morgan's skill set," general manager Ron Hextall said the other day. "He's got to get a lot stronger, but he's an extremely smart player. He's got a young body and he's a young kid and it's going to take time for his overall game to get to where it needs to be. But we like the overall package he has."

Hextall said he had no update Thursday on highly regarded defenseman Phil Myers, who suffered an undisclosed lower-body injury in Wednesday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Islanders in a rookie game at the Wells Fargo Center.
