The Eagles are expected to sign free-agent Broncos linebacker Corey Nelson to a one-year deal, a league source said. ESPN first reported the news.

Nelson, 25, started five games in four seasons for the Broncos. He was mostly a special teams contributor and a role player on defense. A 2014 seventh-round pick, Nelson was limited to five games last season because of an elbow injury. He played only 44 defensive snaps. He has 88 career tackles and 18 special-teams tackles.

Nelson, who is 6-foot-1 and 236 pounds, would joins an Eagles linebacker group that has a lot of questions. Nigel Bradham is a free agent, and Jordan Hicks is recovering from injury. The Denver Post reported that the Broncos matched the Eagles’ offer, but Nelson wanted a bigger role on defense. The Eagles are also committed to improving their special teams this offseason, and Nelson can help in that area.

Are you surprised that the Eagles released Brent Celek?
