The Phantoms had trouble with their own team of Penguins.
The Flyers' AHL affiliate went down to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, 3-1, last night in Wilkes-Barre, and dropped their Calder Cup quarterfinal playoff series, 4-1.
Darren Reid scored the only goal for the Phantoms, 7 minutes into the second period, to tie the score at 1-1, but Chris Minard scored his eighth playoff goal for the Pens 5 minutes later to break the tie and put his team ahead for good.
Dustin Jeffrey opened the scoring with a first-period goal for Wilkes-Barre, and Tim Wallace closed it with a goal 4 minutes into the third period.
Each team had 23 shots on goal in a game that was remarkably clean for teams that have a history of bad blood. Only six penalties were called, with the Phantoms going 0-2 on power plays, and the Penguins 0-1.
It was the Phantoms' third loss to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in four playoff series. The Penguins will face the winner of the Portland-Providence series in the Eastern Conference final. *
