Phantoms win as Leighton saves 33

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Goalie Michael Leighton won his second consecutive start and earned first-star honors with 33 saves last night as the Phantoms beat the Springfield Falcons, 2-1, in an AHL game at the MassMutual Center.

Pete Zingoni and Matt Ellison scored for the Phantoms, with Ellison's eventual game-winner coming with four minutes remaining in the second period.

Zingoni had scored on a power play four minutes into the game.

Former Flyer Andy Delmore ended Leighton's shutout at 14 minutes, 10 seconds of the third.

But Leighton was strong the rest of the way with several saves, including an outstanding stop on a wraparound attempt in the game's final seconds while Springfield had an extra attacker.
