Penn State kicker Joey Julius, who suffers from an eating disorder that has resulted in two trips to a treatment center in the last year, will not be on the Nittany Lions roster for this season, a team spokeswoman confirmed Monday.

The 5-foot-10, 258-pound Julius, who became popular last season for his booming kickoffs and two hard hits that went viral, did not take part in spring practice and revealed on May 5 that he had returned to McCallum Place, a treatment facility in St. Louis.

Julius, of Hummelstown, Pa., originally had revealed his disorder last October on Good Morning America, and said that he had left McCallum Place on July 26 after spending nearly three months there.

Julius would have been a redshirt junior this fall. There was no word on whether he would return to school for the fall semester.

Julius led the Lions in scoring in 2015 with 50 points, making 10 of 12 field goal attempts and 20 of 24 extra points. He was strictly a kickoff specialist last season.
