U.S. Open 2013 scores: Roger Federer, Caroline Wozniacki advance
After weather delayed his match on Monday, Roger Federer had to wait until Tuesday to make his 2013 U.S. Open debut. Weather wasn't an issue this time around and Federer advanced with a straight-set victory against Grega Zemlja.
The two split the first six games to begin the match, before Federer won three in a row to take the first set, 6-3. He continued that success in the second set, winning 6-2 before taking the match with a 7-5 victory in the third set. Federer will face Carlos Berlocq in the second round. Berlocq needed five sets to defeat Santiago Giraldo in the first round.
In addition to Federer, No. 10 Milos Raonic, No. 12 Tommy Haas and No. 13 John Isner advanced with straight-set victories. There were a pair of early upsets with No. 14 Jerzy Janowicz and No. 15 Nicolas Almagro losing to unseeded players.
The first round continues through the night with women's No. 2-seed Victoria Azarenka and men's No. 1-seed Novak Djokovic among the players still scheduled to take the court.
