Philly's Alvarez to fight at UFC Fight Night 59 in January

Philly native Eddie Alvarez, the North Catholic grad who finally signed with UFC in August and made his debut last month at UFC 178, has landed his next fight.

The 30-year-old Alvarez (25-4 career, 0-1 in UFC), who lost a unanimous decision to Donald Cerrone at 178, will face Benson Henderson (21-4) as part of the co-main event at UFC Fight Night 59 at Boston's TD Garden on Jan. 18, UFC officials announced Wednesday.

Henderson, like Alvarez, is also coming off a loss. He is currently the fifth-ranked lightweight, but lost a first-round TKO to Rafael dos Anjos at UFC Fight Night 49 in August.

The event will be headlined by Irish fighter Conor McGregor facing fellow featherweight Dennis Silver.
