Lingerie football team has winning debut

The sight of tenacious ladies playing pigskin in their underwear officially became one of the more scenic parts of the Philadelphia sports landscape Friday with the debut of the Philadelphia Passion.

The Passion opened their inaugural season in the Lingerie Football League with a 40-6 drubbing of the New York Majesty at the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pa.

On a weekend set to include a pair of World Series games between the Phillies and Yankees, as well as a Sunday showdown between the Eagles and Giants, the Passion got the Philadelphia vs. New York theme rolling in the right direction with their lopsided victory over the Majesty.

Wide receiver Tyrah Lusby made a big impression in what was the first game of the season for both teams. Lusby, of Wilmington, Del., scored five touchdowns to power a scoring explosion by the Passion's West Coast offense and earn game MVP honors. The 5-foot-3 wideout caught three touchdown passes to go along with 65 yards rushing and two scores on the ground.

Passion quarterback Jackie Danico threw for 77 yards against an overmatched New York defense, with all of that yardage coming on her three scoring strikes to Lusby.

The win put Philadelphia into a tie with the Chicago Bliss for first place in the LFL's Eastern Conference with a 1-0 record. The Passion return to action Friday to face the Miami Caliente at the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, NJ.

The Lingerie Football League is a spin-off of the popular Lingerie Bowl, an annual pay-per-view diversion from the Super Bowl halftime show. The LFL plays a 7-on-7 format on a 50-yard field. The indoor league features 10 teams in two conferences.
