Doylestown's Patrick Cummins wins by TKO at UFC Fight Night 42

Doylestown native and Penn State graduate Patrick Cummins exorcized some demons Saturday night.

After a brief and rough UFC debut in February against Daniel Cormier, Cummins defeated Roger Narvaez by technical knockout during the second round for his first UFC victory at UFC Fight Night 42 at Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, N.M. The win improved his professional record to 5-1.

Cummins used his wrestling prowess to slam Narvaez to the ground before pounding his way to a stoppage. Cummins was leading all three of the scorecards before the stoppage.

"I really wanted to take my time with everything tonight," Cummins said after the fight. "I waited until I saw him break and tire then I pounced. I wanted to let the finish come instead of chasing it."

The biggest difference for Cummins during his second UFC fight was the fact that he was actually able to take ample time to train and prepare for it. Cummins was a last-minute replacement during his debut against Cormier, who was originally scheduled to fight Rashad Evans. As a result, Cummins was not afforded a lot of time to get himself ready. That wasn't the case this time around and it paid off in the form of a win.

"Having the opportunity to prepare for this fight tonight really made the difference," he said. "Eight weeks is a lot better than eight days like I had in the Cormier fight. There wasn't any pressure and that felt good."
