Cornell's Jamerson leads Penn Relays decathlon

Sophomore Austin Jamerson of Cornell won the long jump and the high jump Tuesday to take the lead after the first day of the Penn Relays decathlon at Franklin Field.

Sophomore Austin Jamerson of Cornell won the long jump and the high jump Tuesday to take the lead after the first day of the Penn Relays decathlon at Franklin Field.

Jamerson's total of 3,728 points led second-place Vinny Biunno of Franklin Pierce by 220.

Northern Illinois' Latesha Bigby, a senior from Jamaica, picked up almost 60 percent of her points in the 100-meter hurdles and the 200 meters to score 3,197 points and take the first-day lead in the heptathlon by 57 points over Villanova's Katherine Petruzzellis.

Here comes Jamaica

Former world-record holder Asafa Powell and Penn Relays veterans Nesta Carter and Michael Frater lead the Jamaican team coming to Franklin Field for Saturday's "USA vs. The World" events, according to a report in the Jamaica Gleaner. Olympic silver medalists Kerron Stewart and Sherone Simpson top the women's entries.
