How the Tournament Works

The Taney Dragons, winners of the Little League Mid-Atlantic Regional tournament, begin play in the U.S. tournament Friday at 3 p.m. against South Nashville, winner of the Southeast Regional, as the Little League World Series gets underway at Howard J. Lamade Stadium in South Williamsport, Pa.

The international tournament will be played at the same time as the U.S. tournament - Thursday through Aug. 23. Both tournaments are double-elimination, meaning a team must lose twice to be eliminated.

The eight-team international tournament is being played at the adjacent Little League Volunteer Stadium.

With a win, Taney would advance to a winners-bracket game Sunday at 7 p.m. against Southwest or New England. If the Dragons lose Friday, they will play one of those teams at 7 p.m. Saturday in a losers-bracket game. If the Dragons win again Sunday, they will play Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., and a victory would put them in the U.S. championship game at 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 23.

If the Dragons win their first game but lose the second, they will play Monday at 3 p.m. If Taney wins Saturday, it will play Monday at 8 p.m.

The World Series final is Aug. 24 at 3 p.m., against the winner of the international tournament.

If Taney loses its first two games, it is eliminated from the tournament. But the Dragons still would play a third game Tuesday against an international team that also lost its first two games.
