Taney wins Pennsylvania state Little League crown

The Taney Dragons of Center City can add state champions to their list of accomplishments.

Taney squeezed out a 6-4 victory in six innings over Allegheny County's Collier on Sunday at Skippack's Palmer Park to advance to the Mid-Atlantic Region tournament in Bristol, Conn.

Jared Sprague-Lott went 3 for 3 with a home run, double, and single.

Collier took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first as Mark Tortorella singled home Troy Donofrio and Christian Trottier. The Dragons tied it in the fourth on Sprague-Lott's two-run homer.

  • Taney went up, 6-4, taking the lead for good in the fifth inning, when it scored four runs. Zion Spearman smacked a three-run homer and Scott Bandura hit an RBI single.

    Taney will be back in action at the Mid-Atlantic Region tournament when the Dragons play West Salisbury, the Maryland champion, at 11 a.m. Saturday.

    Taney will play the Delaware champion at 11 a.m. Sunday, followed by New York state champion Colonie at 7 p.m. on Aug. 5. Its final game in the first round will be at 7 p.m. on Aug. 6 vs. Northwest Washington, the District of Columbia champion.
