After reaching the third round of Wimbledon for the first time in her career, Madison Brengle saw her run at the All England Club come to an end Friday. The Dover, Del., native lost to No. 21 seed Caroline Garcia of France, 6-4, 6-3.

Brengle gave a valiant effort, committing just 13 unforced errors compared to Garcia's 25. But Garcia hit 34 winners to Brengle's 11, and fired five aces.

This year's Wimbledon was the first major in which Brengle reached the third round in the singles competition since the 2016 Australian Open. She previously reached the third round of the 2015 U.S. Open, and the fourth round of the 2015 Australian Open, which remains her best performance to date at a Grand Slam tournament.

In the coming weeks, Brengle will join World Team Tennis and compete with the Washington Kastles. They will face the Philadelphia Freedoms at St. Joseph's University's Hagan Arena on July 23 and 24. If Brengle plays, that will be as close as she gets to her hometown between now and the U.S. Open in August.
