Quick piece of news to pass along. Shane Victorino has been hampered by a sore shoulder and could miss the Phillies' exhibition game against Florida State Thursday night. It doesn't sound like anything serious -- Victorino took batting practice yesterday, but was held out of throwing drills as a precaution.

As for his status on Wednesday night. . .

"He could play," Manuel said, "but I don't know if I will play him or not. I want to play everybody, but if his shoulder's still bothering him a little bit, I won't."

Victorino did not participate in the relay drill, during which outfielders practice fielding base hits near the wall and hitting their cut-off men.

"He's got a little soreness," Manuel said of the center fielder, who won his second consecutive Gold Glove last season. "He had it when he first came in to camp. Right now, we don't want to throw him in our drills -- cut-offs and relays and infield. We'll take it easy on him for a few days and make sure he's alright. That's kind of typical when you come into spring training and first start out. It can happen from sleeping on your arm, or anything, really."

The Phillies have plenty of center fielders in camp, including prospect Quintin Berry and former White Sox reserve Dewayne Wise. John Mayberry Jr., who spent a brief stint with the Phillies last year, played some center field last spring.

It is VERY important that Victorino play in the first game. Season could be lost if he doesn't. Thanks for the important update. I'll check back hourly.

He probably injured himself shaking hands and drinking beers at all of his quasi-celebrity events during the offseason.

He could have hurt his shoulder shaving off his mini afro he had during the offseason.
