Vick ordered to stay in PA, according to NBC

POSTED: Sunday, July 11, 2010, 11:37 AM

Michael Vick has been denied traveling privileges and is not allowed to leave the state of Pennsylvania, according to a report from NBC 10.

He has recently missed two scheduled appearances out of state, one in Baltimore and one in Atlanta, according to the report.

Vick's travel is at the discretion of his probation officer, as it has been since he was released from federal prison a year ago. The latest restriction could affect his ability to play for the Eagles. Vick could, however, be permitted to leave the state for work purposes.

The Eagles had no official response.

In regards to a Yahoo!Sports report that the option of cutting Vick is "absolutely" on the table, per a high-ranking Eagles source, the team maintained its stance that any "report or speculation that suggests the Eagles are considering releasing Vick are not true."

The story comes after one of Vick's co-defendants in his dog-fighting case was shot outside the quarterback's birthday party, June 25. Vick was not considered a suspect in the case, according to police. The local prosecutor has told reporters that Vick was involved in a "confrontation" before the incident but was not involved in the shooting.

An Eagles official has called the use of the word confrontation a "mischaracterization."

An organization that presents itself as an organization that holds itself to a higher profile is continuing to allow this person to continue to be a part of the organization is proving they are a bunch of liars and mercenaries.

Just another example of someone who has Zero Clue as to what good they can do with their life. It is amazing to see these athletes put themselves in these situations over and over and over again. Comical to say the least. Over/Under - 1 year before Vick's brother Marcus Vick gets locked up?...Would anyone really take the over?

For all of you to feel the way you claim you do about Vick, you sure like to follow all articles and then take the time to post your comments. I guess Vick is the only person in Philly that is either on parole or probation, with the crime rate you have there I find that to be highly unlikely, you self righteous people need to quit. I just wonder how many posting have done probation or parole, or both.

Just get rid of ConVick now, and bring back Jeff Garcia for one more season? Jeff is still in amazing shape, for like 40 years old. Could be the Eagle's Jamie Moyer? Jeff has won where ever he has gone? Brought 3 teams to the playoffs:SF, Eagles and Tampa Bay. He still owns a record for QBing one of the best come backs in NFL history, when he brought the 49ers, back against the Giants several years ago.

Bob1, STFU. There are no Vick apologists; just people who aren't ready to lynch the guy based on speculation. I'm sure the truth lies somewhere in between the media reports and what some are speculating, which is why he's not being allowed out of the state. To me, that sounds like a call from his probation officer. Until he becomes a distraction on the field and to his teammates, he's here. Live with it.

Beegel I don't usually waste much time on people like you but foul language wasn't used in my comment, only criticism, and you crossed the line. The government officials in Va. beach already reported Vick as being in a violent confrontation with people outside the party and he's under investigation. You know, the one that was public, that was taking money at $50 a head. Where there was a shooting of his co-defendant that he's no supposed to be near. He's under suspicion of lying to investigators, the NFL and the Eagles. If you want to remain in bed with this waste and his impending legal meltdown, go ahead. But other people in this town don't have to "live with it".

The Eagles have been reduced to making semantic arguments to defend this chump. If the Birds are too proud to cut this guy, maybe the court can help them save face. Or is that a "mischaracterization"?

if he weren't a signed professional athlete, he would recidivate. he's had sufficient opportunity, under judicial protection, to do right and he has failed. what is more, i can't get over, how many resources (and how much!) the eagles are pouring into the relationship with vick. the guy is a fraud. i don't see anybody offering to take me by the hand and lead me through my life. infantile! that's what vick is. infantile and morally incontinent.

Lots of unanswered questions here. Does Vick know who the shooter is and is not "snitchin"? Did Vick directly or indirectly order or influence the shooting? Did Vick permit the Victim to stay at the party in violation of his probation?

Andy/Jeff? Is it that hard to admit you were wrong in even signing this guy last year ?? Get some integrity. Zero tolerance means one strike and you are out. He violated his parole by putting himself at that party knowing (probably) that the wrong guys had a good chance of being there. Besides, he can't play in a west coast offense. That is why they try to use him in the wildcat. Who is ever going to be surprised by that? Bite the bullet. Cut him and eat the money. Get the rest of the team ready--especially the QB's without wasting reps on Vick. Dpo it sooner rather than later so everyone can get their mind focused.

I don't see this as a bad thing. Barring him from traveling protects him against retaliation to and from others in my opinion. He'll be in camp for the next few weeks prior to traveling with the team, so this may be a blessing in disguise. If he was prohibited from leaving VA, then I would be concerned, but since it's the place of employment (PA), no concern at all.

I don't expect the Eagle Front Office to be forthcoming about this, or any other team activity. They have been notoriously full of hot air when it comes to what they are really doing. People pinning their position based on front office statements are going to be be disappointed that they have been misled, again. The rest of us that know how this game is played realize exactly how they will handle this, which is to limit their own culpability and then dump him when the story will be overshadowed by other breaking events in the world around us. I think duing MLB allstar break is a good time, this way they will hope they can fly under the radar with their tacit admissions that signing him was a huge mistake from the very beginning.

It just goes to show what the top brass of the Eagles are like. They do not care about the fans, or team image. Vick can do anything he wants and get away with it. There is nothing he can do to get thrown off the team. How can you expect Reid to conrol a player when he has no control in what goes on in his home. Laurie is a sneak and can't be trysted. He'll come out with some seech and think he has smoothed everything over. So don't anyone get their hopes up vick is not going anywhere. Did not support the Eagles last year and won't as log as they condone dog killing. I cheered when they lost last year. They do not derseve to win.

I surprised myself last year coming out in favor of giving Vick another chance and allowing him to play with the Eagles. He seemed very sincere and remorseful at the time. However, it is now apparent to me this guy loves hanging around with gun-toting thugs and is nothing but a cancer on this team. Get him out of here. It's only a matter of time before he's back in prison himself.

They need to cut him, with or without sufficient back-up, just like Parcels did with Quincy Carter a year after Carter took them into the playoffs. How things working out for Quincy these days? Yes....indeed. I have lots of metaphoric stones and I'll toss them wherever I want. Biblical scriptures (lies) do not apply to modern, thinking human beings. The majority of people posting here probably do not have a federal rap sheet, and never will because they understand, through their own use of judgment, what is right and wrong. A working brain, devoid of religious brainwashing, is fully capable of discerning how to behave properly, which is something Mr. Vick has proven he is unable to do at this point. Milhouse....cut. Namath....cut. Vick....cut.

Michael Vick is a loser. You would think that after all he went through, he would've just stayed in the gym with a trainer and became the most strenthened, powerful, graceful, fastest player in the NFL. But for some people, prison is a step UP! Good riddance!

rdecredico: I understand the facts very well, which merits why you speak from what you "wish" versus reality. The fact is he is still a member of the Eagles and he has not violated probation. Leave the predictions to the experts, which in this case is definitely not you Nostradamus.

I think this seals Vick's fate as an Eagle. I know they're trying to delay cutting him, hoping that some team will give them a bag of used jock straps for Vick, but I would think that they'll have to do something before training camp starts. They need a backup QB in place by then....one that's actually going to be here when the real games start in September.

Floydcuttuer: He is still target of a federal investigation, even if the state is not looking into his behavior. It was not state probation, it is a federal parole. Going to law school helps make one more of an expert in this area: law. He violated the parameters of his federal probation, that is why he is mandated to staying in state by his FEDERAL probatiopn officer. All the statements by local police are meaningless, red herrings at best. Nostradamus is not needed in a case as straightforward as this. He is done, will be cut, and will probably never play in the NFL again. I am under no such constraints as the writers of the newspaper to pull punches. He is guilty of violating probation. The fed moves with the quickness of a glacier, but they do move, and the tip of the iceberg showing means there is a lot more ice underneath. Next time, choose better heroes so as to not be disappointed.

Good lord cut this guy while you still have a chance to sign a half-decent veteran as a backup to Kolb. Otherwise this drama will tank the season.

Vick is no longer an NFL QB...he proved that last season. Dump him.

eaglefaninaz - read the article. It's at the discretion of his parole officer.

faninAZ - I was wondering the same thing. Seems asking these 'reporters' (cough) to do more than regurgitate others' reports is asking too much.

You know if the Eagles cut him and he can't leave the state, he could play for the Steelers or no one. But the Steelers have enough problems with their own funky QB so I'm thinking he should be in Reids office doing what he needs to do.

no one likes vick but on the field hes as really good quarterback in one play in the playoffs last year and then got taken out i think we should give him a chance on the field. and with this whole shooting thing people r saying hes guilty just cause of his past, people need to move on.

How about we cut the qb with 1 win and 7 ints and keep the qb that has playoff victories and a winning pct over his career! Now that would be a good football decision! I hope they do cut him so Kolb can be out there all alone! Ha ha now that would be funny

Lousy reporting. If they already determined he had nothing to do with the shooting and having a birthday party, why does he have to stay in the state. the papers pay people for this? None of this makes any sense so go do your job and find out the reason, when you do then let the rest of us in on it.

Hey wiff, Alexander Pope said "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing". From your first hand experience, how dangerous is someone with no knowledge at all? And learn to read. BTW, nice way to insult an entire state. Of course your existence is an insult to humanity but we all have burdens to bear. Keep up the good work wiff.

The Eagles got rid of the wrong QB, at least Donvan McNabb had good character unlike Vick who, despite having the backing of the Eagles, The Humane Society, Tony Dungy and scores of other apologists, can't stay out of trouble
