Report: Phillies sign RHP Cuban Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez
The Phillies signed Cuban RHP Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez to a six-year deal that could potentially be worth up to $60 million, according to a report from Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports.
The deal would make the 26-year-old the highest paid international player in the major leagues.
According to Passan, Gonzalez would first hit the minor leagues for some seasoning in order to prepare to be brought up by the team mid-August.
Gonzalez, who defected to Mexico in February, impressed scouts with his fastball that hit 93 miles per hour and slow curve-ball in Tijuana.
The Phillies are believed to have outbid the Boston Red Sox for the 6-foot-2 pitcher.
