Phillies decline 2015 option on Mike Adams

The Phillies will not be activating their 2015 option on injury-riddled relief pitcher Mike Adams.

The 36-year-old righthander was signed by the Phillies in December 2012 on a $12 million, two-year deal (with the option for a third year). He inherited the set-up role and appeared in 28 games that season, throwing 25 innings pitched and amassing a 3.96 ERA with 23 strikeouts and 11 walks.

In July 2013, he elected to have right shoulder surgery for a torn rotator cuff after underperforming out of the bullpen. He would not return to the roster until the following April.

In 2014, Adams threw even less for the Phillies, appearing in 22 games and 18.2 innings, with 2.89 ERA with 21 strikeouts and eight walks. He started the year on the disabled list with a sports hernia, and lasted until June 7 before his shoulder was reaggravated due to a frayed labrum, thus ending his 2014 season.
