Rich Dubee said he's thought about it. But he hasn't talked about it.

So for now, the Phillies are noncommittal on whether Kyle Kendrick or Vance Worley will make the next turn in the rotation when the fifth starter spot comes up Saturday at New York.

"We have time," Dubee said.

The pitching coach said he was impressed by Worley, who pitched five innings in Monday's afternoon game. He allowed two runs on six hits and struck out five. Worley ran into a few jams and limited the damage.

"I like the way he competed," Dubee said. "He worked with tempo and composure."

Kendrick has struck out five in his last four starts combined. In that span, he has a 7.84 ERA in 20 2/3 innings.

Dubee said the fact that Kendrick has made 79 career starts as opposed to Worley's one will not factor into the decision. The rookie took batting practice with the rest of the starting pitchers before Tuesday's game.

"We don't have reservations about anyone here," Dubee said. "That's why they're here. If we think they give us the best chance, we'll go with them."

For what it's worth, Dubee said he believes Kendrick hasn't been throwing too terribly of late. He was miffed about Kendrick's failure to pitch around Prince Fielder in the first inning of Sunday's game.

"Overall," Dubee said, "I thought he was OK."

Maybe this will give Werth some time to realize that he MUST be on his toes ALL the time. Straighten out your attitude

Suggestion for Phillies pitch HAMELS, HOLADAY AND OSWALT THE REST OF YEAR ONLY 24 GAMES LEFT 3 OFF DAYS(THURS)no throwing between games, let them suck it up.them 3 75 to 80%chance to win, BLANTON and KENDRITCK 75 to 80 % to lose. not like gene mauch in 64 use 2 pitchers every other day.

Just some food for thought about the pitching staff and what it could have been this year. Brett Myers is 10-7 with a 3.02 ERA for the lowly Astros this year. J Happ in 8 starts for the Astros is 5-2 with a 3.21 ERA Nelson Figueroa has a 2.36 ERA since we let him go. Our bums.. Kyle Kendricks 9-8 with a nice ERA of 4.89 Jamie Moyer 9-9 with a low ERA of 4.84 And of course we can't forget Danys Baez with a ERA of 5.14 Way to go Junior.

Hey Jerseymagic if you are going to bash junior for bad moves give him credit for good moves. You failed to mention Halladay 17-10 best era in the majors, leading in innings pitched, and K's. How about Oswalt the guy happ was traded for he has been terrible right? How about Contreras he has been pretty good, Ross Gload? Brett Myers was and is a head case, this is the best he has ever been now that his team is 30 games under .500. How about Cliff Lee he is 3-8 down the stretch for the Rangers but, you would rather have him than Oswalt and Halladay because, you are so much smarter than JR. Get a like you loser Mets fan. I have never seen so much negativity about a club who has won the East 3 strait and maybe 4 strait years and gone to 2 world series in a row and will have a chance for 3.

Wow now that is hate. Bottom line is facts are facts and they don't lie. Blanton 8 million a year Moyer 8 million a year Baez 5.25 million a year Ibanez 11.5 Million a year Total 32.75 million Wondering why we can't sign Werth? A GM's job is just not about the here and now its about the future as well.

Without Blanton, Moyer, and Ibanez Phillies don't win the world series. Fact is Werth isn't worth 20 million a season. Dominic Brown will be our starting right fielder and rookie of the year next season. Moyer's deal will be up and Ibanez will be up after next season. Great play by Werth just cost the Phillies another run, Hurry and sign him before he gets away. Maybe he should change his name to WERTHLESS!!!! It seems like he only hits when the Phillies are way ahead or way behind. He is hitting under .200 with RISP and people complained about Abreu when he was here, at least he knocked in 100 runs every year, Werth hasn't done that once in his career. I appreciate what he has done here but, the Phllies got him coming of an injury so his contract was resonable but, for 20 million a year!!!! Let the Mets make that mistake just like they did with Bay!!!!!!

About Matt Gelb and Bob Brookover

Bob Brookover and Matt Gelb team up for their third straight season covering the Phillies for the Inquirer and philly.com.

This is Brookover’s second stint writing about the Phillies, having joined the coverage team after seven years as an Eagles beat writer. Brookover was hired by The Inquirer in 2000 as the Phillies beat writer after spending 13 years writing about the team for two suburban newspapers. While on the Eagles beat, Brookover, who had covered just two winning Phillies teams in 15 seasons, saw the Phillies move into a cash-cow new ballpark and begin playing a brand of the game he found unrecognizable. Gelb is in his third season covering the Phillies. He was hired by The Inquirer in August 2009 after graduating from Syracuse University. He has also covered baseball at The Star-Ledger and Cape Cod Times. Born and raised in Bucks County, he attended Central Bucks High School West. Follow him on Twitter here.
