LeBeau: if I'm in PA, I'll be in Pittsburgh

POSTED: Sunday, January 23, 2011, 11:45 PM

Before anyone starts drumming up speculation: Steelers defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau isn't coming to Philadelphia.

"If I'm in the state of Pennsylvania, I'm going to be in Pittsburgh," LeBeau told the Inquirer when asked about his future and the Eagles defensive coordinator position after Sunday night's win over the Jets.

LeBeau's contract expires after this season, according to ESPN, stoking the hopes of some fans of teams looking for a defensive coordinator. The ESPN report mentions Arizona as a potential landing spot for the venerable coordinator. He was probably not a very realistic target for the Eagles, and there were no indications that the Birds planned to go after him, but that wouldn't have stopped rumors or speculation. His comments, though, seem to indicate that this is one idea, however fanciful, that can be put aside.

Eff. Ah well can't blame him. Can't blame the Inquirer for asking I guess. Would've loved to hear that chat, "Hey Coach, I know you're going to another Super Bowl and all, and that you've run a 3-4 defense since the Nixon administration, but any chance you'd like to switch gears and take over what's basically Pittsburgh's scout team here in Philly??"

No Sh#%. Geez, I thought they might have a chance at Bud Carson. Once again, some reporter responds to a story that was never a story in the first place. No one with any sense thought Dick LeBeau would ever leave Pittsburgh to come to Philadelphia.

Just because Lebeau said "If I'm in the state of Pennsylvania, I'm going to be in Pittsburgh" doesn't mean he wouldn't come to Philly. His team will be playing in the Super Bowl in two weeks -- what do you expect him to say? "I can't wait to leave Pittsburgh and go somewhere else"? If he finds himself unemployed, he'll sign anywhere. With that said, I don't think the Eagles will pursue him.

No quality DC wants to work under Andy. He's like Al Davis with 160 lbs. added on.
