The Phillies didn't have to look far for their back-up catcher -- just a couple counties to the north, actually. Former Northampton High star Brian Schneider has passed a physical and will soon sign a deal to play for his hometown team, sources confirmed to the Daily News earlier today.

Schneider, 32, played full time for the Expos and Nationals from 2004-07, hitting .254 with a .325 on base percentage and .693 OPS, but spent last season in a part-time role for the Mets, hitting .218 with a .292 on base percentage and .627 OPS.
