Birds Take a Flyer; More Visits Coming
Les Bowen
The Eagles announced today that they have signed former Air Force wideout/returner Chad Hall, after a tryout.
The team later announced it would host a pair of veteran free agents today -- ex-Raiders running back Justin Fargas
and a former Eagle, wideout Hank Baskett, who finished last season with the Colts. Baskett's inability to field a surprise onside kick was a big moment in Indianapolis's Super Bowl loss to the Saints, but he was a sturdy, reliable reserve with the Birds.
Fargas is the son of actor Antonio Fargas, who played "Huggy Bear" on "Starsky and Hutch."
Hall, 5-8, 185 when he starred as a running back and receiver for the academy, has been on active duty as a second lieutenant the past two years. Here is a link to a story written about him during his senior season of 2007.
Hall worked out Monday at Utah's pro day. Several teams expressed interest, the Eagles more than the others, he said.
Hall, 23, told reporters today in a conference call that he is currently negotiating his departure from the Air Force; right now he is a maintenance officer at Hill Air Force Base in Salt Lake City, working 10 to 12 hours a day, he said.
"Right now I'm part of the 421st Fighter Squadron, the Black Widows," Hall said. "You have 28 F-16s and about 200 troops. Right now I'm the assistant commander, so I'm second in command."
Hall wasn't drafted. He had tryouts with the Falcons and the Bills before beginning his 2-year service commitment.
The link in the blog post goes to an article that mentions an upcoming game between Notre Dame and Air Force. In that game, Chad Hall ran for 142 yards and had 272 all-purpose yards for Air Force. Not bad: http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/21726188 Leegles

Whats the matter, wasn't Lorenzo Booker available? watsonmr- He must off been a discounted player. lol.. Superbowl here we come! ChrisM
Trade bait perhaps? If not he's probably just going to return kicks, what else is there, oh I get it, the wishbone is back! They also signed that back from the AFL right?, its all special teams. Dutch
He'll catch 35 balls next year and they will lock him up to a 5 yr 35 million contract only to trade him for a 6th round pick after next season. DennyP
Can a team ever have too many fast guys? Too many play makers? As always the negative energy is abundant here. Biloxi
Guess we'll be treated to the inane "superbowl here we come" comments everytime the Eagles sign a camp body. dragoon6- best roster in the league just got even tougher. jb99
Great signing i see howard roseman your are genius now all we need is another player coming off of a ACL and we will be set to win the Super Bowl....yipee. teebone40

Last I checked there were a number of undrafted players who turned out to be great players (Antonio Pierce-Arizona, Ryan Grant- Notre Dame, London Fletcher-John Carroll, Jeff Saturday-UNC, Rod Smith- Missouri Southern State to name a few). I’m not saying this guy is going to be anything more than a camp body. I’m not even saying he’ll make it out of mini-camps. I know this is not the big splash signing everyone is hoping for but there is no need for all the pessimistic attitudes for every piece of Eagles news not involving McNabb being traded. datbo215
Yeah, short and light guys suck in the NFL! Just ask Westbrook (5'8" - Now some genius will tell me about how B-West was 5'10" - Yeah, and I'm 6'4" - nope, I'm only 6'0"), or Darren Sproles (5'6"), or Steve Smith (listed at 5'9"), or DeSean Jackson (5'9 and even LIGHTER than the guy they just signed!). Need me to go on? This guy is probably NOTHING but a camp body, but let's face it - the Eagles seriously need some depth - even training camp depth - at both RB and WR. So if this guy can help out in training camp and pre-season, great. Anything more is just bonus. knighn
Please Jeffrey Lurie, sell this team!!! Its obvious you, Joe Banner, Howie Roseman, and Andy Reid's goal is to be competitive and sucker your fans into thinking your trying to win a Superbowl. We deserve a championship caliber players, not the Marlin Jackson's and Chad Halls of the world. I guess the next signing will be reclaiming Lorenzo Booker off the waiver wire. SamFig
well at least he's tough. sasquatches
