The Phillies have released triple-A Lehigh Valley righthander Kris Benson.

The Phillies signed Benson to a minor-league contract in Februrary with the idea that he could plug into the rotation sometime before June 1. But because of injuries, Benson progressed much more slowly than they had hoped. So the Phillies moved forward and acquired Joe Blanton before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, which eliminated the possibility that Benson would pitch in the Phillies rotation this season.

Even if there were an injury to a starting pitcher at this point, J.A. Happ would be the likley replacement.

We're not sure the exact reason why the Phillies released Benson, who was 1-4 with a 5.52 ERA in 11 starts in Lehigh Valley, but I'll pass it along once I do.

you're not sure? The guy was 1-4 with a 5.52 ERA. How about he sucked, and everyone was tired of waiting?

I am going to miss them. Of course I am referring to Anna's assets, they never even got to the bigs.

Down 0-2 Victorino took one for the team in the 6th resulting in bases loaded and bringing up Werth who singled in 2 go ahead runs. Great job guys. Myers pitched great but used 50 pitches to get through the 2nd, 3rd, & 4th innings which is probably why he wasn't effective in the 8th. Overall a good outing once again for Brett. The top 5 had 7 hits, 5 Ks, 2HBP, and 3 runs scored. Lately Howard has been more patient making them pitch to him. Thank God for Jason Werth great day at the plate.

As some of you may know Burrell is in a prolonged slump. While any number of mechanical problems can contribute to this I have noticed on predominant one. PAT THE BAT! YOU ARE PULLING YOUR HEAD OFF AT THE LAST SECOND MAN. With 4 weeks left DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT NOW!!! We need your bat down the stretch.
