Baldinger slams McNabb
Sheil Kapadia, Philly.com
It's not unusual to hear an analyst criticize Donovan McNabb.
While many in the national media seem to think that Eagles fans have been too hard on him, most will concede that he has his faults (inaccuracy, never won a Super Bowl, etc.).
But NFL Network's Brian Baldinger recently took aim at McNabb in a way I don't remember seeing during his 11-year career.
Multiple analysts weighed in on the McNabb situation on NFL.com after McNabb was traded to the Redskins. But none had stronger words than Baldinger:
The Eagles should be ecstatic. I view McNabb as a flawed player, and it was never more apparent than in the back-to-back losses to the Cowboys last season. His flaws will never go away. Now, the Eagles get at least two chances to expose the same flaws they've been covering up for 11 years. It works against the Redskins that McNabb is still in the division. Andy Reid can finally stop covering up for one of the most overrated quarterbacks in the history of the game. The Eagles will go to the playoffs. The Redskins will be watching from the golf course.
Ouch.
It's unclear from the article whether his words were part of a TV discussion or whether the site simply was rounding up the opinions of several of its personalities.
Baldinger serves as an analyst for NFL Network and Fox. He played with the Eagles from 1992-93.
Thoughts? Has Reid been covering up for McNabb over the last decade?

Reid is a player's coach, you pick up his banner, and he'll cover your back... he's a straight shooter from the hip, and doesnt pull punches... but it would be ridiculous for any coach to expose the faults of his team..... think about it.... Pa Bryon

People keep pooh poohing Kolb's performance against the Chiefs because the Chiefs were a bad team. What good defenses did McNabb play well against last season? He beat up on some bad defenses. Starting in the second half of the Broncos game he went downhill. McNabb is a declining, aging player. I bet he's gonna be a bust in Washington. soulman386

In Baldinger's analysis all year (and maybe through they years), he's been very negative on McNabb. I won't tell you that BB does not know a lot about football -- he's smart and articulate. But, does he have an agenda? Is anything personal there? I don't know. I'd love to see Baldinger eat crow over these remarks. MG44
Baldinger absolutely nailed it. I've been telling everyone and anyone I can talk to that exact same thing for the past couple of days. Everyone's had the blinders on, it seems. DS17- the picture caption says "Analyst Donovan McNabb recently ripped Donovan McNabb". Where's the proof reader?
Ridiculous. There's no question McNabb is a very good QB. The best the Eagles have had, if not among the best all-time on any team. He's made too many plays, thrown too many TDs, led the team to too many championship games to say otherwise. He's better than 90% of the QBs you can name. We'll see how he does in Washington and against the Eagles. Leegles- Ha!
- Brian Baldinger is my favorite football guy, and that was before I heard that analysis.
Baldy's right: Why else would they trade McNabb to a division rival? Because they know his game is declining rapidly and we can now beat on him twice a year. If he had anything left, they never would have sent him to the Skins. Phront_Runner
Baldy hit the nail on the head (McNabb would have missed it short). I have always noticed that the flow of the game or the gameplan or the playcalling looks different when a back-up QB has been in the game compared to McNabb. The offense just seems to have had more flow and less herky-jerkiness, 3 and outs, etc., when it was Garcia or Kolb or even Feeley at the helm. No doubt McNabb's a good QB - and I like the guy - but it really has seemed that he has been the Achilles' heel in Andy's system. We'll soon find out the truth. If it wasn't Donovan with the flaw, then it's Andy. SMitchell
LOve Baldinger. No one should be scared of the skins or mad about the trade in the division. ESPN football outsiders, Scouts, Inc., and KC Joyner have all looked at the advanced statistics and concluded McNabb is only a slight upgrade over J. Campbell. Plus, eagles will know how to defend McNabb. phillydopes
If McNabb is flawed what does that make Baldinger? He was a journeyman O-Lineman who couldn't even start for the Eagles when their line was awful. Someone sounds jealous to me.....but then again Baldinger is one of the 'A' commentators out there, getting all of the best games every weekend. Oh wait..... wondo40
Like Lonewolf, Baldinger should be very careful to go out on such a limb. The proof will be in the pudding, and it could very easily end up on his face. birdseed
