76ers President and General Manager Ed Stefanski announced today that the Sixers have officially signed free agent swingman Rodney Carney.

Carney, who will start his fourth year in the league, played his first two seasons with the Sixers before being traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves as part of the deal that freed cap space for Elton Brand. Last season, Carney, 6-foot-7, averaged a career-high 7.2 points in 67 games for Minnesota.

"Rodney Carney is a player that we feel will mesh extremely well with out current personnel and in the up-tempo style of play that Coach Jordan will continue to implement this season," Stefanski said. "We think that Rodney is one of the most athletic players in the league who has the ability to stretch the floor and we are happy to have him back."

Carney's signing gives the Sixers 13 players under contract, training camp opens Sept. 29 at St. Joseph's.

The final piece to the puzzle...it's all coming along nicely! (1-who thought I was serious? 2-who cares?)

Whooopie!! Is there any life from this fanbase anymore? I can't really invest anytime to care considering the other 3 teams and their success. This team is just hopelessly mediocre.

I didnt want him to go in the first place, but I understand the economics. I think this was a steal to get him back. I expect him to do well. I am watching hopefully!!

If he can now play a better D than he did , he will be a nice addition to a team which will have to play like the Globetrotters to even get to the PO's.

This is why the NBA is a joke league. What other sport can you see a trade where 2 players and a 1st round pick brings you a 2nd round pick in return? And then both the players get let go? Fan-tastic.

Best move Ed S. has made so far? Might be. (He's made a lot of bad decisions). Carney is athletic, can run and can shoot from the outside. So he fits a need. But too little too late.
