Reid: Samuel feels fine

The stinger Asante Samuel suffered in last night's win over Chicago turned out to not be serious, after all, and the Eagles cornerback is feeling fine, according to coach Andy Reid.

Samuel has had several stingers this season. He's bounced back from each, but last night he left the game and did not return. Samuel's upgraded condition is important in light of how the Eagles' cornerback corp has been depleted. Sheldon Brown has a hamstring strain, but still played through the injury against the Bears. He tweaked his hammy in the first half, but jump back out on the field without pause when Samuel got hurt.

Reid held his morning after press conference today and had several injury updates. Wide receiver Kevin Curtis (knee) and Brian Westbrook (concussion) are both out for Sunday's game against Washington. Reid said that linebacker Akeem Jordan (knee) was getting better, but if the team was practicing today he wouldn't be out there. If Jordan can't go for the third straight game, Will Witherspoon will likely remain in his spot on the weak-side and Jeremiah Trotter and Joe Mays will be left to roam the middle. They both had their ups and downs last night.

Safety Quintin Demps is still recovering from a high ankle sprain.

Isdaner to work out for Eagles

Greg Isdaner, an offensive linemen out of Episcopal High School and West Virginia University, will workout for the Eagles tomorrow at the NovaCare Complex, his agent Stephan Halper said in an e-mail.

Isdaner, 6-foot-4 and 322 pounds, was a three-year starter at West Virginia. He bypassed his final year of eligibility with the Mountaineers to enter this year's draft. After not being selected, Isdaner signed with the Dallas Cowboys, who released him Sept. 1.

It's possible he could end up on the practice squad because the Eagles have a history of rotating their practice-squad roster during the course of the season.

    Bravo to Samuels and Brown for their team spirit! Eagles secondary is struggling and very depleted, but it is the run defense that should concern everyone more. This offense can score 24-31 points against any NFL defense; the D needs to keep the other teams running game contained and make their QB throw pick-six.

    Can we pay sheldon brown already? Freaking guy can barely run and he is out there breaking up passes, albeit against Cutler who sucked. Make a side deal with sheldon and reward him for his work ethic and attitude.

    nuggett - blame them for Ellis Hobbs suffering a season-ending injury and Joselio for his 4 game suspension? Those two have made their share of mistakes, but you can't blame them for every single thing that goes wrong

    dunno what games u have been watching but samuel has actually been tackling and making hits, he went too hi on that one play but if u actually watch the games he had several good tackles the past few games...

    Samuels had several tackles early. I admit I was checking the number, but he had solid hits. He also save a TD on the long run. Bears only got a field goal. His hits won't make anyone forget Andre Waters or even Sheldon Brown. But, Samuels is who we thought he was. I'll take him at this point. Maybe you want Lito back?

    Samuels had one tyackle where he bonced off the runner then ran eight feet away from him with no effort to tackle him. Pinkston never liked to go in the middle and Samuels doesn't like to tackle.

    I'm not an Asante fan, but we do need him. He did make a good hustle play to catch up with Bell, and push him out-of-bounds. I'd like to see more of that effort from him. On the downside, a good college QB throws a td on him on the play Hester beat him by 15 yards on a double move. For all his big play ability, Asante is not a shutdown corner, and he makes the occasional hit, but almost never wraps up - kind of like Bobby Taylor used to, and maybe not that good.

    You forgot the rest of the Reid quote: "Samuels feels fine.....but hits like a girl." For those of you Rhodes era fans out there, Brown is Troy and Samuels is Bobby.
