BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Fittingly, it rained in the morning, afternoon, and evening at Lehigh yesterday.

Andy Reid, meanwhile, wasn't concerned about the pall that had literally and figuratively parked itself over training camp.

Would you expect anything otherwise from the stoic coach?

Since camp started July 26, Reid has dealt with the nine-day holdout of his top draft pick, the death of his longtime defensive coordinator as a result of cancer, the arrest of a player, and a rash of injuries, including two season-ending ones.

"That's all part of the game, and that's the way I look at it," Reid said. "I really haven't even thought about it, to be honest with you. I just go, and whatever is there that needs to be handled, we'll handle it."

Still, there has been a lot to handle, although the coach and the team appear to be faring well.

Wide receiver Jeremy Maclin missed more than a week of practice because of contract negotiations but appears to be adapting. Jim Johnson died July 28, but the team mourned at a service Friday and is back to business. And the incident in which defensive end Juqua Parker was charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana after guard Todd Herremans' van was pulled over has slowly faded away.

"I do know more about it," Reid said. "I've got to let the law take care of that side of it. And then we can proceed from there. I'm not going to disclose the discipline or any of that."

The injuries, however, most directly affect what happens on the field. There have been more than a dozen thus far in camp. In particular, losing starting middle linebacker Stewart Bradley and rookie tight end Cornelius Ingram for the season to torn knee ligaments had to be viewed as a pair of devastating blows.

"I don't even look at it that way," Reid said. "I go the opposite way and just say it's an opportunity for other guys to step in and play."

Injury update

DeSean Jackson returned to practice yesterday afternoon after sitting out the morning session with a hyperextended knee.

Reid said the wide receiver could have joined the morning workout if not for wet field conditions. Jackson participated in several light drills during the afternoon; he sat out others.

Brian Westbrook continued to rehab his surgically repaired ankle with the training staff. After the afternoon practice, Reid guided the running back through a series of pass-catching and running tests, much as he did Wednesday.

Reid said defensive end Victor Abiamiri (pectoral muscle) and defensive tackle Trevor Laws (hamstring) were making progress. Bradley is scheduled to have knee surgery Tuesday.

Extra points

The offense was not sharp yesterday. There were multiple offside penalties, several dropped balls, many errant throws, and a fumble. . . . Tackle King Dunlap and defensive end Jason Babin got into a nasty scrap, with both throwing punches. "I started it," Dunlap said. "I hit him first." . . . Jim Cramer, host of CNBC's Mad Money, was at camp. The Wyndmoor native is an Eagles fan and wore a Brent Celek jersey. . . . Tackle Jason Peters, a confessed car nut, drove to practice in a black Maserati. . . . The Eagles have two practices scheduled for today, at 8:15 a.m. and 2 p.m.
