Evans, Henderson sign contracts
Two products of Philadelphia-area basketball, Tyreke Evans and Gerald Henderson, signed contracts yesterday with their NBA teams.
Evans, the No. 4 overall pick in last month's draft, signed with the Sacramento Kings. The Chester native is expected to earn about $3.6 million as a rookie.
The 6-foot-5 guard helped Memphis win 27 games in his lone college season, averaging 17.1 points per game. He attended now-defunct American Christian Academy in Aston.
Henderson, the 12th overall pick, signed with the Charlotte Bobcats. Terms were not disclosed. The 6-4 guard is a graduate of Episcopal Academy and played three seasons at Duke.
Wallace joins Celtics. Rasheed Wallace is joining Boston's Big Three as the Celtics try to recapture the NBA title they won in 2008.
The four-time all-star signed yesterday, the first day free agents were allowed to do so. He joins Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen in a veteran corps.
Terms of the deal were not released.
The 6-11 Wallace, who earned $13.68 million last season with Detroit, is a former star for Simon Gratz High who played two seasons at North Carolina.
Pacers sign Hansbrough. Former North Carolina star Tyler Hansbrough signed with Indiana. As the 13th overall pick, the 6-9 forward is slotted to receive about $1.5 million this season and nearly $1.7 million next season, with a $1.8 million option for his third year.
Curry signs with Warriors. Stephen Curry, the seventh overall pick in the draft, signed with Golden State. Under the rookie salary scale, the 6-3 guard from Davidson can be paid up to $2.71 million.
Warriors majority owner Chris Cohan is looking to sell the team, several sources told the Contra Costa (Calif.) Times.
Rockets get waiver. Houston may still be hoping Yao Ming returns next season, but it has been able to cash in on his serious foot injury.
The Rockets applied for a disabled-player exception from the NBA a few weeks ago, betting that their all-star center will miss next season with a hairline fracture in his left foot. The NBA agreed that Yao's return is unlikely, freeing up about $5.7 million that the Rockets used to sign Trevor Ariza from the Lakers.
Nuggets keep "Birdman." Chris "Birdman" Andersen agreed to a five-year deal to keep his high-flying, shot-blocking act in Denver, his hometown. Andersen, who turned 31 on Tuesday, could make up to $26 million over the lifetime of a back-loaded contract.
Marion dealt to Dallas? Forward Shawn Marion is being traded from Toronto to the Mavericks in a three-way deal, the Dallas Morning News reported.
The trade is not official, the newspaper said, but the Raptors can't afford to re-sign Marion as they need to clear salary-cap space to sign free agent Hedo Turkoglu from the Orlando Magic.
As part of the deal, former 76er Jerry Stackhouse will go from Dallas to the Memphis Grizzlies.
Noteworthy. The Atlanta Hawks have reached an agreement to re-sign center Zaza Pachulia to a four-year contract, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. . . . The San Antonio Spurs signed former first-round pick Marcus Haislip, a 6-10 forward who spent the last two seasons in Spain. . . . The Toronto Raptors signed former No. 1 pick Andrea Bargnani, a 7-foot native of Italy, to a five-year contract extension.
The Milwaukee Bucks signed second-round pick Jodie Meeks, a 6-4 guard from Kentucky, to a three-year contract. . . . The Mavericks signed 6-6 guard Quinton Ross, who has spent the last five years with the Los Angeles Clippers and Memphis Grizzlies. . . . Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva officially joined the Pistons. Gordon left the Chicago Bulls and signed a $55 million, five-year contract. Villanueva signed a $35-million, five-year deal as he said farewell to the Bucks. . . . Free-agent forward Antonio McDyess is leaving the Detroit Pistons for San Antonio. Terms of his contract were not disclosed.
