Mark Recchi (left),with Phil Kessel, is sixth in career goals among active NHL players. He has won two Stanley Cups.
Mark Recchi joined the Boston Bruins hoping to win his third Stanley Cup, and he decided to stay with them for another shot at it.

The sixth-leading active goal-scorer in the NHL agreed to a one-year deal, agent Richard Curran told the Associated Press yesterday.

The team had no comment.

The 41-year-old former Flyer, obtained March 4 from Tampa Bay, said he might retire if the Bruins didn't offer him a contract.

The Bruins had the best record in the Eastern Conference but lost to the Carolina Hurricanes in the conference semifinals, four games to three.

"Mark wanted to come back and finish what they started," Curran said.

Recchi won Stanley Cups with Pittsburgh in 1991 - he was traded to the Flyers in 1992 - and Carolina in 2006.

He ranks 14th in NHL history in games and points, 18th in assists, and 26th in goals. Among active players, he is second in points and assists, third in games, and sixth in goals. He has 545 goals and 897 assists for 1,442 points in 1,490 regular-season games for seven teams.
