UPDATED:

Rookie defensive end/linebacker Ricky Sapp had successful surgery today to debride his right knee at the Rothman Institute, the Eagles announced. Sapp was placed on injured reserve on Aug. 31, ending his season.

Nineteen members of the 1960 Eagles, longtime public relations director Jim Gallagher and the spouses of two deceased players will arrive Friday for a 3-day celebration of the 50th anniversary of their NFL championship.

On Saturday, the 1960 team will join the 2010 team for its final walkthrough at the NovaCare Complex before Sunday’s season opener.

The team will return to Franklin Field for a photo taken in the same spot as the team photo was shot 50 years ago and then tour the stadium. An autograph session is scheduled for 4:15 for select fans who attended or had family members attend the title game.

The 1960 team will walk the red carpet into Lincoln Financial Field for a tribute dinner and reception Saturday night.

On Sunday, the team will board a double-decker bus at the NovaCare Complex for a processional into the Linc. The procession will travel east on Pattison Avenue, south on Broad Street, east through the Wells Fargo parking lot, north on 11th Street, east through Lincoln Financial Field K Lot, south on Darien Street and into the Linc.

The current Eagles will wear 1960 throwback uniforms against Green Bay.

Expected for the celebration are: Billy Ray Barnes, Maxie Baughan, Chuck Bednarik, Dick Bielski, Timmy Brown, Riley Gunnels, Gerry Huth, Eddie Khayat, Bill Lapham, Dick Lucas, Jimmy McCusker, Tom McDonald, Jerry Reichow, Pete Retzlaff, Theron Sapp, J.D. Smith, Chuck Weber, John Wilcox, Jerry Wilson. The late Tom Brookshier will be represented by his wife Barbara. The late Bob Pelligrini will be represented by his wife Dolly.

The Eagles also have invited Dick Bielski, who played for the team from 1955 to '59 and Joe Pagliei, who played for the Birds in 1959.

As for the current Eagles, they are off today and will be back on the practice field tomorrow.

The Packers practiced yesterday and were without Brandon Underwood (shoulder), defensive end Cullen Jenkins (calf) and linebacker Desmond Bishop (hamstring), according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. Jenkins and Bishop took part in the walk-through, but Underwood didn't do anything and was wearing a shoulder harness.

Jenkins said he expected to be ready for the opener but wasn't sure when he would practice. Bishop's status is undetermined.

On his team's preparation for the opener, coach Mike McCarthy said, "As far as how much work, as far as practice time, we had one practice that we spent on Philadelphia. Now, we've had an offseason study that we spent a week as a staff on, and that's something that, frankly, I spent the week of the Kansas City game going back through. We feel good about our plan that we have for Philadelphia and how we approach this game."

The trade of defensive end/linebacker Antwan Barnes by the Ravens to the Eagles caught some of his Ravens teammates by surprise. Barnes is expected to play defensive end with the Eagles and could drop into their "Joker" position. The linebacker spot was crowded in Baltimore.

“It was a shock to all of us,” outside linebacker Prescott Burgess told the Baltimore Sun. “Antwan Barnes is a great pass rusher and a great player. But it’s a business. I don’t what happened upstairs or the reason why they traded him. We’ve got a whole lot of linebackers with me, Jason Phillips, Edgar Jones.”

Added Jones, also an outside linebacker: “I was surprised. I’ve known Barnes going on four years now. It was just bigger than football. I got a chance to hang out with him and his daughter, and they got a chance to play with my daughter. So he was more like a brother.”

I was 9 years old and went to that game with my Dad. I remember a bright sunny day and the world was great!! I still wear #60 to every game I go to. Little did I know it would be 50 years, at least, without another one!!!!

As a tribute to the '60 team, Lurie should have the Eagles wear kelly green for the next 15 years.

Debride: To remove dead, contaminated or adherent tissue or foreign material. I learned a new word today. Can anyone use this in a sentence along with the word "Andrews"? Just kidding.

My father took me to the game on the day after Christmas. We took the bus from Lancaster and when we arrived the smell of cigar smoke filled the air at Franklin Field. I remeber getting upset when the Packers faked a punt. I didn't know thay could do that, I was 9. I have wonderful memories of the game and that day. Sadly my father died on the day after Christmas of 2008 never seeing another championship. Hopefully he is watching from someone when they do win a championship. GO EAGLES!

They should abandon this midnight green nonsense and go back to the kelly green. Looking at the photos from 1960, it's impossible to ignore how classy those jerseys looked.

I find it embarrassing that we're actually celebrating 50 years without a Championship this year.

I won't possibly live long enough to see a 50th anniversary of the next Eagles championship. I hope to see the first anniversary of the next one though.

It took Les only a few seasons after the switch to figure out that there was no penalty box at the Linc, and that the time really wasn't his, despite what Andy Reid kept saying. Les came to Philadelphia and the Daily News from Charlotte in 1983. In the intervening years, he has pretty much lost track of NASCAR, and his accent. For the last 10 years, he’s been a selector for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. A native of Wilkes-Barre and a graduate of Wilkes University, Domo started his career in Texas, working first for the Midland Reporter-Telegram (1976-78), and then for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, where he covered some god-awful Texas Ranger baseball teams.
