Roman Catholic’s Hakim Hart commits to play for St. Joseph’s
Hart averaged 15.1 points while helping lead Roman Catholic to last season's Catholic League championship.
Roman Catholic senior wing Hakim Hart narrowed his college basketball list to a trio of Big Five schools, and announced Wednesday afternoon that he was bound for Hawk Hill.
The 6-foot-6, 190-pounder committed to play for St. Joseph's in a ceremony at Roman. He chose the Hawks over runners-up La Salle and Temple.
"It wasn't an easy decision," Hart said. "A big thing for me was the visit I took to St. Joe's about a week-and-a-half ago. The players and coaches made me feel right at home."
Hart averaged 15.1 points last season while helping the Cahillites post a 24-6 record and claim their third state title in four seasons with a 90-82 defeat of District 12 rival Lincoln.
Hart, who plays AAU ball for Philly Pride, said he also had scholarship offers from Bowling Green, Quinnipiac, Robert Morris, and Tulane.
The 17-year-old transferred to Roman after playing one season at South Jersey's Kingsway Regional.
Hart, who earned second-team all-Catholic League honors last season, is the first commit for St. Joseph's in the class of 2019.
"I just wanted to put the recruiting process behind me, so I could start focusing on my senior season," he said.
