Saturday's Pa. roundup: Shipley girls' basketball wins second straight PAISAA title

Lauren Ross finished with a game-high 23 points Saturday as the Shipley girls’ basketball team won its second straight PAISAA title with a 47-37 triumph over Notre Dame. Anna Camden and Sanaa Redmond added 15 and nine points, respectively, for the Gators to round out the scoring.

Megan Bealer and Megan Walbrandt each scored 11 points as top-seeded Souderton upended Council Rock North, 49-39 in the District 1 Class 6A quarterfinals. Alana Cardona contributed with 10 points for the Indians. Souderton will play Garnet Valley in Wednesday’s semifinal.

Taylor Hamm shot 12 of 14 from the free throw line and had 23 points as Perkiomen Valley defeated Great Valley, 43-34, in the District 1 Class 6A playbacks. The Vikings will take on Downington East on Wednesday.

In other 6A playback action, Central Bucks East took down Conestoga, 56-33, thanks to 14 points from Caroline Pla. Bailey McManus chipped in with 11 points for the Patriots. Central Bucks East will play Upper Dublin on Wednesday.

Nicole Kaiser recorded 14 points in Upper Dublin’s 52-19 victory over Haverford High. Dayna Balasa added 13 points for the Cardinals. Upper Dublin will play Central Bucks East on Wednesday.

Kaylie Griffin ended with 12 points to lift Gwynedd-Mercy over Nazareth Academy, 36-23, in the District 1 Class 4A semifinals. Alyssa Martin pitched in with nine points for the Monarchs. Gwynedd-Mercy will play Lower Moreland in next Saturday’s title game.

Boys’ Basketball

Nick Alikakos scored 20 points to lead Hill School to a PAISAA title with a 68-50 victory over Haverford School. Chase Audige and Seth Maxwell chipped in with 15 and 14 points, respectively, for the Blues.

Kevin Dodds posted a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds as Bishop Shanahan advances to the District 1 Class 5A semifinals with a 63-50 victory over West Chester Rustin. Joe O’Malley contributed with 17 points for the Eagles. Bishop Shanahan will play __on Wednesday at the Liacouras Center.

In other 5A action, Tyler Norwood paced Penncrest with 18 points in a 57-31 win over Holy Ghost Prep. Malcolm Williams contributed with 10 points while Justin Heidig had eight assists for the Lions. Penncrest will play Wissahickon on Wednesday.

Max Rapoport scored 13 of his team-high 15 points in the second half to power Wissahickon over Great Valley, 55-48. Donovan Oliphant had all eight of his points in the second quarter, and added four rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Patriots’ Liam Ward made four threes for a game-high 27 points.

Tariq Kalim recorded a double-double with 31 points and 13 rebounds as Downington East defeated Central Bucks East, 86-70, in the District 1 Class 6A playbacks. Andrew King and Malik Slay added 16 and 14 points, respectively, for the Cougars. Downingtown East will host Bensalem on Tuesday.

Swimming

La Salle captured its 30th consecutive Catholic League title on Saturday. The relay team of Alex Patti, James McErlean, Andrew Pave, and Liam Smith won the 200 yard freestyle and the 400 freestyle.

Archbishop Ryan won the Catholic League title for the girls on Saturday. Allison Henry was on the winning relay team for the 200 medley and the 400 freestyle, and came in first place in two individual events: the 200 IM and the 500 freestyle. Meghan Kidd, Sarah Vargas, and Sydney Aston joined Henry on the winning relay teams.
