Public League basketball fight leads to suspensions

A fight that started in the stands and spilled onto the court last week during a Public League boys’ basketball game between Martin Luther King and Math, Civics and Sciences has resulted in a suspension for one player from each team.

The game, which took place Tuesday at the Martin Luther King Recreation Center, was halted in the fourth quarter after players from each team got in each other’s faces. An argument in the stands erupted almost immediately afterward and spilled onto the court, with several fans involved.

King, which was leading with about four minutes left in the final quarter, was awarded the victory.

Jimmy Lynch, executive athletic director for the Public League, did not name the players disciplined.

King will travel to Mastery North on Tuesday, and MC&S will visits Audenried, also on Tuesday.
