Local runners break state records at New Balance Nationals Indoor

Dock Mennonite’s Austin Kratz, Thelma Davies of Girard College, and the Saint Joseph’s Prep boys’ 4×400-meter relay team broke Pennsylvania state records at the New Balance Nationals Indoor meet this past weekend in New York City.

Kratz ran 21.01 in the boys’ 200 meters to break his own PA state record (21.04). He passed US#1 Eric Allen Jr. in the homestretch to take the national title. Kratz won the 60 meter dash and the 200 at the PTFCA Indoor Track & Field Championships at the end of February.

Miles Green anchored the Saint Joseph’s Prep relay team, which also included Robert Dupell, Salim Epps, and Malik Cooper, to a time of  3:16.08, breaking Abington’s 2011 state record of 3:16.78.

Thelma Davies of Girard College broke her PA state record in the 60 meter dash to finish second to standout freshman Tamari Davis of Florida. Davies ran 7.33 to break her previous record of 7.37.
