Strawberry Mansion won with just 13 players in uniform.

Strawberry Mansion coach Steve Quigley wrote two names on a piece of paper before the Knights' game Saturday against Delaware County Christian.

With only 13 players in uniform and truly only 11 prepared to play, someone had to play right guard.

Tawfeeq White, a junior who typically plays wide receiver, lost the game of chance on paper, but helped the resilient Knights earn a 12-6 victory on the field.

That is why Strawberry Mansion (1-0), as a team, is my Week 1 Player(s) of the Week in the city (Catholic League, Public League and Inter-Ac).

Senior wideout Dayquan Perkins scored the eventual game-winning touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Perkins, who joined the team last season, hauled in a short pass from senior quarterback William Pope and scooted downfield for glory.

"I just caught the ball and didn't see anyone in front of me, just one defender," Perkins said. "So I just had to move on and just run."

He added: "It was the best feeling ever because that was the longest touchdown I've ever had. It was just fun."

Quigley, now in his fifth season, said two players had just completed physicals the day before but didn't know any plays and suited up only in case of an emergency.

"Eleven guys is just really tough," Quigley said. "They know they don't have any subs."

He said one of the positives he took from the game came during a late timeout.

"I told them, 'I know you're tired.' One of the boys said, 'Nobody out here is tired. Is anybody out here tired?' They all said, 'No, we're not tired!' "

Quigley added: "It was really good to see that they didn't give up, they didn't quit and they wanted the victory. Their attitude showed it."

Five other notable performances:

Conwell-Egan junior Patrick Garwo ran roughshod over New-Hope Solebury for 157 yards and four touchdowns on just 12 carries. In the Eagles' win, Garwo also added a receiving touchdown.

Bartram's Mahmud Dioubate rushed for 165 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries (7 per attempt). The senior also threw for 102 yards on 13-of-25 passing in the Braves' victory over Archbishop Ryan.

La Salle senior Isaiah Jones threw for 144 yards and two touchdowns, and added 135 yards on the ground in the Explorers' win against North Penn.

Archbishop Carroll's Dahmir Ruffin ran for 186 yards and two scores in the Patriots' blowout win versus Olney.

Bishop McDevitt freshman Jon Luke Peaker finished with 206 yards and two scores on 13 carries in the Lancers' triumph against Lincoln.
