Tues. Pa. boys’ and girls’ roundup: Pino powers Kensington

Jhon Pino scored the first goals of his varsity career and led the Tigers past host Douglas, 2-1, in a Public League Division C game Tuesday.

Pino, a freshman, scored twice in the first half and his efforts were backed by the goaltending of Carlos Sanchez who turned aside seven shots.

In her first varsity game on Sept. 17, Yina Pino assisted on both goals Kensington scored in a 2-1 win over Del-Val Charter. The Pino's came to Kensington from Colombia.

In a Division B game, Herman Cox scored twice and helped Boys' Latin get past visiting Mastbaum, 6-2.

Nabieu Sesay added a goal and two assists while John McDowell and Khalid Watson chipped in with a goal and an assist and Edmund Wright contributed a goal for the Warriors.

Also in Division B, Amos Ajidolade and Fristo Marc each scored twice as Frankford handled host Roxborough, 5-0.

Rischard Denoyer also scored and Ken Appiott stopped a pair of shots to pick up the shutout for the Pioneers.

Musa Kamara scored a career-high four times and led Fels to a 6-0 win over visiting Swenson.

Lionel Deetehou and Sindou Kamagate added goals, John Nothacker assisted on a pair of goals and Bernie Vilsaint earned his third shutout after stopping 12 shots for the Panthers.

Catholic. Donald Tees converted a direct kick into a goal in the 25th minute and sparked Cardinal O'Hara to a 1-0 win over visiting Conwell-Egan.

Tees' goal came from 20 yards out. Christian Canavarro turned aside 12 shots to earn the shutout for the Lions who were forced to play the final 12 minutes with 10 players.

Tom Baker scored the game-winning goal 14 minutes into the second half and Carlo Barrera tallied twice for Archbishop Wood in a 3-1 win over host Monsignor Bonner.

Barrera scored 12 minutes into the game and again with 22 minutes left in the contest. Dan Trodden and Chris Rosica provided assists and Nick Aglira turned aside five shots to earn the win in goal.

Darius Madison collected four goals and and assisted on another as La Salle ripped host Bishop McDevitt, 6-1.

Kristian Hall pitched in with a goal and two assists and Billy Lucas also scored for the Explorers who got a combined four saves from Leonardo Romero, Jordan Santora and Mike Miskiel.

Tez Hilliard led a balanced Father Judge scoring attack with two goals and the Crusaders went on to trip visiting West Catholic, 8-0.

Inter-Ac. Doug Trimble scored what proved to be the winning goal midway through the second half and helped Episcopal Academy beat host Germantown Academy, 3-1.

Spencer Ivey and Zack Wolfe also scored for the Churchmen who got six saves from Hayden Walling.

Central. Andrew Gonzalez scored in the 50th minute and gave Conestoga a 2-0 lead en route to a 2-1 win over host Marple Newtown.

Robbie Rose also scored for the Pioneers who got seven saves from Drew Rote.

Eric Derkis and Michael Superdock scored goals to give Radnor a 2-0 win over visiting Haverford High.

Superdock assisted on Derkis' goal and Kyle Furtaw stopped four shots to earn the shutout for the Red Raiders.

Gabe Boni scored twice and Dan Kurzman added a pair of assists to lift Harriton to a 4-1 win over visiting Ridley.

Zico Gaeffke and Marec Serlin also scored for the Rams who got four saves from Sam Blumenthal.

Ches-Mont. Roberto Silva scored twice in a five-minute span in the first half and led Kennett to a 3-1 win over visiting Coatesville.

Jamison MacMain contributed two goals and an assist as West Chester Rustin downed host Great Valley, 3-1.

Drew Sommer came through with a pair of goals as Unionville topped host Oxford, 3-0.

Perry Hopkins faced two shots en route to the shutout for the Indians and Hornets goalie Jorge Gomez stopped nine shots.

Bicentennial. Frank Huebner earned his first career hat trick for Calvary Christian and Abu Fafanah scored three times including the tying goal with 1 minutes, 30 seconds left for host Girard College in a 3-3 double-overtime deadlock.

The Cougars got 15 saves from Kevin McIntyre.

Kyle Klein notched a hat trick in the first half and propelled Holy Ghost Prep past visiting Lower Moreland, 5-0.

Justin Buzogany and Joe Leporace added second-half goals and Daniel Burke earned the shutout in goal with four saves for the Firebirds.

Friends Schools. Ibrahim Kamara accounted for a pair of goals and boosted Germantown Friends to a 4-1 win over visiting Academy of the New Church.

Henry Bushnell added a goal and an assist, Cole McCourt chipped in with a goal and Brendan McEwen stopped five shots for the Tigers.

Two-thirds of the Kimelheim triplets scored goals and led George School past host Friends' Central, 3-0.

Noah and Zack Kimelheim found the range as did Richie Schulz. Jared Kimelheim was prevented from scoring by the Phoenix defense.

Tri-County. Jacob Gallagher scored the lone goal of the game midway through the first half and handed West-Mont Christian a 1-0 win over host Collegium.

Micah Suliamon stopped three shots to pick up the shutout and Greg Buracker stopped one shot for Collegium.

Field Hockey

Alana Dumas finished off a nifty two-on-one play with a goal two minutes into overtime to give host Episcopal Academy a 1-0 Inter-Ac League win over Penn Charter on Tuesday.

After a steal at midfield and a push through by Blake McHugh, Dumas and Kacey Hirtle had a two-on-one situation with Hirtle feeding Dumas with a pass that she one-timed into the left corner of the net.

The Churchwomen are now 8-4 overall, 3-1 league.

Public. Washington needed an unassisted goal in overtime from Barbara Danhardt to earn a 2-1 win over visiting rival Northeast.

Danhardt scored 8 minutes, 32 seconds into the extra session to end it. Salena Powers also scored for the Eagles (5-1). Juania Velesquez scored for the Vikings.

Nikole Reed's second-half goal stood up for host Franklin Towne Charter in a 1-0 win over Lincoln. Dana Dempsey started the play with a corner and goalie Madeline Cepparulo turned back all 17 shots she faced.

Central. Kelsey LeBlanc scored twice and added an assist for Haverford High in its 3-0 win over visiting Radnor. The Fords (10-3, 7-0) also got a goal from Rosie Coogan.

Nicola Coakley's three goals were the difference for host Conestoga in a 5-2 win over Marple Newtown. Coakley scored three second-half goals to break a 2-2 tie.

Rachel Vitola and Julia McGrath anchored the defense for host Garnet Valley in its 4-1 win over Springfield (Delaware County). Allison Heavens, Taylor Krzeszowski, Lisahn Visser and Emily Wenger scored.

Ches-Mont. Caitlin Walsh's second-half goal gave Downingtown West a 1-0 win at Avon Grove. The Whippets' Liz Coyne had five saves in goal.

Friends Schools. Avery Safford and Julia Tyson each scored twice to lead host Shipley past George School, 10-0, in its league opener.

Kendall Jackson's goal with 15 minutes left in the second half gave Westtown a 2-2 tie at Germantown Friends.

Girls' Soccer

Priscilla Wiggins and Lily Collins scored second-half goals to rally host George School past Friends' Central, 2-0, in a Friends Schools League game. The Cougars are now 7-3-1, 4-0.

Iris Williamson scored four goals in the first nine minutes of the game for Germantown Friends in its 9-1 win at Academy of the New Church. The Tigers (2-4-1, 2-1-1) also got a pair of goals from Lyles Swift-Farley.

Sophomore midfielder Nanci Selig posted a hat trick to lead host Shipley past Westtown, 6-0. Selig now has 15 goals for the season.

Central. Salina Williford scored twice, her sixth and seventh goals of the season, to lead host Conestoga to a 6-0 win over Marple Newtown. The Pioneers (7-2-2, 4-1-1) led, 4-0, at the half.

Penn-Jersey. Tamara Moskowitz scored twice for Barrack Hebrew in its 6-0 win over Mercy Vocational.

Golf

St. Joseph's Prep placed four golfers in the top 12 and took the Catholic League championship with 498 strokes at par-71 Raven's Claw Golf Club.

Steve Owens III of Father Judge won the individual title with a 79. For the Hawks, Kieran Ryan (6th, 81), John Leighton and Zach Melnick (tie 7th, 82) and Ken Taras (tie 9th, 83) brought home the title.

Public. Jacob and Daniel Spivack braved the elements and led Central to the league title at Walnut Lane.

Jacob Spivack fired an 11-over-par 42 and Daniel followed with a 43 for the Lancers who won with 197 strokes.

Lincoln's Roland Stucke took individual honors with a 40 and the Railsplitters were second with 251 strokes.

Central. John Rennard shot a two-under-par 33 and led Conestoga to a 180-184 win over Radnor at Waynesboro Country Club.

The win gave the Pioneers (13-1) a share of the Central League title.
