In the last three seasons, the Garnet Valley football team has won 36 of 41 games, capturing a pair of PIAA District 1 Class AAA championships in 2006 and 2007 and walking off with the Central League title in 2008, its first year in the league.
By Tim McManus, INQUIRER STAFF WRITERDowningtown East locked up the No. 1 seed in the District 1 Class AAAA tournament and its first unbeaten regular season in school history Friday with a 6-3 win over visiting West Chester Henderson in a Ches-Mont National football game.The Cougars, ranked second in Southeastern Pennsylvania by The Inquirer, open the tournament at home next weekend. Ryley Angeline gave the Cougars (10-0, 6-0) a 6-0 lead on an 8-yard run in the third quarter.Sean Engles 37-yard field goal cut the lead in half in the fourth quarter, but the Warriors (7-3, 3-3) couldnt get any closer.
