Conwell-Egan falls to Oley Valley in PIAA state playoffs

The Eagles rallied late, but couldn’t finish the comeback in the first round.

Conwell-Egan's baseball season ended Wednesday as Oley Valley defeated the Eagles, 6-5, in the first round of the PIAA Class 3A playoffs.

The first inning ended with the score, 2-2. The top half of the frame was played Monday before rain suspended the game.

Oley Valley took the lead back with a three-run second. Peter Vaccaro hit an RBI single, a run scored on a fielder's choice, and Tyler Wentzel added an RBI double to make it 5-2.

The Lynx, however, made three errors in the field in the bottom of the second. Ryan Crowell and Chris Furey scored for the Eagles, cutting the gap to one.

Conwell-Egan tied the score in the fourth on Bryce Trimble's third RBI of the day. His two-out double to right scored Furey.

Oley Valley responded with the game-winning run in the fifth. Wentzel led off with a single and stole second before coming around to score on Zach Pellock's swinging bunt.

The Eagles' best chance to tie came in the sixth. With runners on second and third, Will Zimmerman hit the ball hard to left. But a diving catch kept it a 6-5 game.

Daymond Zweizig tossed a perfect seventh to secure the victory for the Lynx, who will play Holy Redeemer on Thursday.
