Scott Stephen has been selected as West Chester East's new football coach. He was a wide receivers coach the last two seasons for the Vikings.

Stephen played football at Glen Rock High in North Jersey and Franklin and Marshall. As a running back for the Diplomats, he rushed for nearly 1,000 yards and seven touchdowns in 2004.

At East, Stephen replaces Dave Gueriera, who stepped down after three seasons to take the top spot at Malvern Prep.

"He's a smart guy, very organized," Gueriera said. "He's got a great passion for the game. I think it's a solid hire."

The Vikings went 5-7 overall, 1-5 in the Ches-Mont League National Conference, and earned a berth in the District 1 Class 5A playoffs last season.

Stephen, a health and physical education teacher at the school, is also a track and field coach.
