Maggie Balint bested Kristen Fuertes in a pitchers duel as second-seeded Avon Grove defeated Ches-Mont rival and 19th-seeded West Chester East, 2-1, in the District 1 Class 4A semifinals at West Chester Rustin on Tuesday. Balint surrendered no earned runs while striking out 10 batters.

District 1 Class A Semifinals. Brianna Vearling struck out 11 as first-seeded Bristol beat fourth-seeded Christian Academy, 8-0, at Pennsbury.
