Franklin Towne Charter wins softball title in game marred by scuffle

An extra-inning rematch of last year's Public League softball final led to a clash at the plate in the top of the eighth inning during Franklin Towne Charter's 10-8 win against Philadelphia Academy Charter on Wednesday at La Salle University, according to Franklin Towne Charter coach Jennifer Daley.

A scuffle between several girls led to the ejection of multiple players, including Coyotes starting pitcher Michelle Slaughter.

Second-seeded Philadelphia Academy Charter rallied from an 8-5 deficit in the bottom of the eighth to tie the score at 8.

Skyler Petroski, filling in on the mound for Franklin Towne Charter, went 4 for 5 including a double in the top of the ninth.

Katie Olzewski scored the winning run on Megan Stapf's single, one of 18 hits for the Coyotes, who had lost two straight Public League championships, falling to Philadelphia Academy Charter last season and Central in 2014.

District 1 Class 4A playoffs. Bri Battavio threw a shutout in 21st-seeded North Penn's 1-0 win over 12th-seeded host Central Bucks South. Battavio allowed four hits and two walks, striking out three.

Maggie Balint struck out 12 batters in Avon Grove's 8-0 win against visiting West Chester Henderson.

The University of Oregon recruit also went 3 for 4 with two RBIs in the win.

Pioneer Athletic Conference. On Thursday night, Methacton's Megan Stauffer will sign a letter of intent to play softball for Monmouth University.

Baseball

Nick D'Amore went 3 for 3 with two runs and two RBIs in Neumann-Goretti's 9-3 home win over Bonner-Pendergast in the Catholic League semifinals.

Aidan Baur had a two-run single in the fifth inning, knocking in the decisive runs.

Girls' Lacrosse

Hannah Chiesa had three goals and three assists in Perkiomen School's 21-15 win against host Collegium in the Tri-County League championship.

Emily Walsh and Stephanie Falcone added five goals each.
