Greg "Bubba" Bernhardt has been fired as Bonner-Prendergast's head football coach after four seasons. He learned of the school's decision Tuesday afternoon.

"I was totally shocked," Bernhardt said. "I didn't see it coming at all. I thought we did a good job of putting the program in the right direction."

Bernhardt, who was part of Monsignor Bonner's 1995 championship squad, compiled an 19-23 overall record. The Friars went 4-6 this season, losing to Archbishop Ryan, 7-6, in a Catholic League Class AAA playoff semifinal.

"I'm extremely disappointed, but I don't have any ill will toward the school," Bernhardt, 38, said. "I wish them all the best. Hopefully, they will get the guy they want."
