Pa. football: Penn Charter watches Notre Dame, then tops EA

The Quakers opened the field to Notre Dame for a morning walk-through and welcomed home starting tackle Mike McGlinchey, a Penn Charter graduate.

Penn Charter later showed shades of the Fighting Irish, punching its way to a 42-35 win over Episcopal Academy in an Inter-Ac League game.

With his team trailing by one point with less than two minutes remaining, Mike Hnatkowsky ran for the deciding touchdown. Denarii Beard intercepted an Episcopal Academy pass to seal it with 1 minute, 36 seconds left.

Hnatkowsky completed 17 of 21 passes for 327 yards and five touchdowns. Chris Tucker caught three of them and netted 163 receiving yards, including a 42-yard catch to set up the winner.

Christian Feliziani caught two touchdown passes and scored on a 90-yard kickoff return for Episcopal Academy. The senior netted more than 300 yards.

Catholic League AAAA. Joe Longo threw for 112 yards and a touchdown in St. Joseph's Prep's 41-7 rout of Roman Catholic at Plymouth Whitemarsh. He also rushed for a touchdown. The Hawks are the third-ranked team in Southeastern Pennsylvania by The Inquirer.

Catholic League AA. Kendall Jones ran for a touchdown and threw for another to lead Conwell-Egan past Bishop McDevitt, 31-20, at Cheltenham. Kyree Bronson and Jarrett Patman each rushed for a touchdown and recorded an interception.

Bicentennial League. Andres Madden threw three touchdown passes to lead Jenkintown to a 39-7 win at Lower Moreland. Christian Solis rushed for a pair of touchdowns and 102 yards on 12 carries. Justin Nusbaum got the Drakes on the board with a 70-yard interception return in the first quarter.

Suburban One Continental. Kyle Hickey returned a kick for a touchdown with less than a minute remaining to send No. 20 Council Rock South over host Norristown, 49-45. The senior rushed for five touchdowns. Desmond Gorski threw seven TD passes for Norristown.

Pioneer Athletic Conference. Ricky Venuto threw for three touchdowns and rushed for another to lead No. 14 Spring-Ford in a 56-0 rout at Pope John Paul II. Matt Gibson and Jason Wilson each rushed for a pair of touchdowns.
