Vandevere's instincts and solid tackling at inside linebacker have helped the Hawks go 5-2 overall and 2-0 in Catholic League Class AAAA games.

The 6-foot, 220-pound senior registered 13 tackles, including six solos, as the Prep rallied with four fourth-quarter touchdowns to turn back Father Judge, 35-13, in a league contest last Saturday night.

Two weeks earlier, Vandevere was involved in nine stops, with five solos, in a 28-5 nonleague romp over North Jersey power St. Joseph Regional. The Green Knights came in ranked No. 18 in the country by USA Today.

Vandevere, a third-year starter, earned second-team all-Catholic honors last season as the Hawks went 11-3 and claimed their second consecutive PIAA Class AAAA state title.
