Pa. football: Angeline a two-way threat as Downingtown East tops Roman Catholic

On Saturday afternoon the USC recruit proved that distinction applies only to quarterbacks on his own team.

Angeline recorded five sacks at defensive end to help Downingtown East dispatch Roman Catholic, 35-21, in a nonleague football game at the South Philly Super Site.

Angeline, who hauled in six catches for 104 yards, caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from Saunders Healy in the second quarter to give the Cougars the lead for good, 16-10.

Jack Kincade piled up 101 yards on 24 carries for Downingtown East, which is ranked No. 4 in Southeastern Pennsylvania by The Inquirer.

Roman's Philip DiWilliams threw for 266 yards and three touchdowns. Joey Bristow added 96 receiving yards on six catches.

In other nonleague action:

Steve Devlin earned his 100th career victory as No. 3 Archbishop Wood turned away No. 20 Simon Gratz, 44-30, at William Tennent. Anthony Russo completed 10 of 20 passes for 202 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran in a 1-yard keeper early in the fourth quarter.

Mike Hnatkowsky threw for 121 yards and four touchdowns as Penn Charter breezed by Neumann-Goretti, 40-14, at the South Philly Super Site. A week after injuries forced him to play tackle, Evan Ferrell returned to his usual tight end position and hauled in two touchdown passes. Linebacker Luke Stansfield had an interception, a fumble recovery, and a tackle for loss.

Greg Farina grabbed four passes for 163 yards and three scores to help Jenkintown cruise past visiting Nativity BVM, 52-15. Andres Madden tossed five touchdowns and compiled 292 total yards (211 passing, 81 rushing).

Rasheem James caught three passes, all touchdowns, for 104 yards to help Ben Franklin cut down Kensington, 48-0, at Simon Gratz. Nyeem Jones tallied a touchdown and 89 yards on six carries. Jermaine Wilson grabbed an interception.

Kevin Carter tossed a pair of touchdown passes to lead No. 9 Haverford School to a 45-28 victory over Archbishop Ryan at Northeast.

Anthony Weizer returned a punt 99 yards in the second quarter and Academy of the New Church rolled past visiting Lower Moreland, 41-6.

Rashon Cooke caught a touchdown pass late in the second quarter to give Lower Merion the lead for good in its 36-25 triumph over visiting Delco Christian.

D'Andre Swift had a 92-yard kickoff return and a short rushing touchdown, but No. 1 St. Joseph's Prep fell at New Jersey powerhouse Don Bosco Prep, 55-21. Don Bosco led by 36-7 at halftime.

Rodney Courtney ran in two touchdowns but Bristol fell, 21-13, at Pennington.

Tommy O'Hara connected with Jack Gibson just before halftime for Cardinal O'Hara's only touchdown in its 42-7 loss at Salesianum.

Pioneer. Tyrell Barr piled up 324 yards and four TDs on the ground as visiting Pottsgrove ground down Pope John Paul II, 44-20.
