Pa. girls: Agnes Irwin beats Episcopal, claims first state title

Agnes Irwin did something Thursday that no team other than Episcopal Academy had ever done. It won the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association girls' lacrosse title.

It won the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association girls' lacrosse title.

The Owls did it with a 14-4 win over Episcopal Academy in the final at Cabrini College.

Hannah Keating scored six goals and Lila Barker added five goals and three assists.

The PAISAA girls' lacrosse tournament began in 2011 and EA won the first three championships. Friends' Central defeated Episcopal in the final last season.

District 1 Lacrosse Fifth-Place Game

Rachel Warden delivered what proved to be the winning goal as Garnet Valley clinched a spot in the state tournament with a 15-14 victory over Springfield (Delco). The game was a rematch of last year's state title game.

Bicentennial League Softball Final

Marlee Sutterley doubled home pinch-runner Tiana Nelson from first in the bottom of the seventh to send Bristol to a 2-1 victory over Christopher Dock at New Hope-Solebury. Cara Fabiano led off the inning with a single and Nelson came on as a pinch-runner.

Dock defeated Bristol for the title last year. Bristol won it the year before.

Public League Softball Final

Macey Smith went 3 for 4 with two runs and an RBI to propel Philadelphia Academy Charter past Franklin Towne Charter, 8-7, at La Salle University.

Riley Walker struck out six in a complete game for PACS, which captured the first title in the program's nine-year history.
